Blue Origin plans $330 million Florida expansion to ramp New Glenn launches.

Blue Origin plans $330 million Florida expansion to ramp New Glenn launches. Advertisements Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin said Friday it plans to make extensive upgrades to its Florida launch facilities with the goal of supporting multiple flights per week by the end of the decade. The company will add two more launch and landing pads for New Glenn, its heavy-lift, partially reusable rocket. A $330 million expansion to its Rocket Park campus in Cape Canaveral, expected to be complete in the summer of 2027, will enable it to produce up to 150 upper stages of its New Glenn rocket annually, Blue Origin said in a blog post. "These investments are centered on one goal: building the capacity to support more missions, more reliably, and more efficiently," Ian Richardson, Blue Origin's senior vice president of operations, wrote in the post. "As we look ahead, this infrastructure is designed to support multiple flights per week by the end of the decade." Blue Origin is working to ramp up its launch cadence as it vies to compete with its chief rival, Elon Musk's SpaceX, for commercial and government customers. Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp told CNBC's Morgan Brennan last month that the company's first outside funding round is "oversubscribed." The company had raised $10 billion for the round, valuing it at $140 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company is also recovering from a setback in May, when one of its New Glenn rockets exploded on the launchpad. Blue Origin has been aggressively restoring the launchpad with a goal of returning New Glenn to flight by the end of 2026. As part of the upgrades, Blue Origin said it's building a new customer integration facility with the U.S. Space Force at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station that will enable it to "prepare multiple missions at once" when it's up and running. Blue Origin has invested more than $3 billion in its infrastructure and facilities in Florida, which now spans more than 20 sites across the state's Brevard and Orange counties, with more than 5,000 employees, Richardson said. The space industry is also grappling with a launch capacity shortage, as SpaceX has stopped offering commercial rides on its workhorse Falcon 9 rocket to prioritize its massive Starship rocket. That's spurred a flurry of investment, with $92.5 billion invested in the commercial space sector in the first three quarters of 2026, according to a report this week by venture capital firm Space Capital. Blue Origin, SpaceX and other rocket providers are seeing increasing demand from companies and governments trying to deploy satellites into orbit. Both Blue Origin and SpaceX have their own satellite internet services, and they're launch partners for Amazon, which is in the process of standing up its full Leo low Earth orbit satellite constellation. SpaceX's Starlink currently dominates the market with more than 11,000 satellites in orbit.

Space propulsion startup Agile Space opens Seattle-area engineering office to tap regional talent - GeekWire.

Space propulsion startup Agile Space opens Seattle-area engineering office to tap regional talent - GeekWire. by Kurt Schlosser on Oct 15, 2026 at 7:14 amOctober 15, 2026 at 8:02 am Space propulsion company Agile Space Industries is expanding its footprint to the Pacific Northwest, signing a sublease for a new engineering office in Bellevue, Wash. Situated in the Sunset North office complex along Interstate 90, the nearly 5,740-square-foot space will initially house a half-dozen existing employees while scaling up to accommodate an engineering team of 20 to 30 people. The effort is being led by Chief Technology Officer Jake Mills, a former propulsion engineer and crew member at Jeff Bezos' Kent-based Blue Origin space venture. Mills joined Durango, Colo.-based Agile in June and the Bellevue hub will try to tap into more of the Seattle region's deep aerospace talent pool for systems, design, and propulsion engineering. Started in 2009 as Advanced Mobile Propulsion Technologies, Agile specializes in in-space chemical propulsion systems for satellites, lunar landers, and national security missions. Unlike booster rockets that launch payloads off the planet, the company's hardware - including thrusters, propellant tanks, and integrated propulsion systems - takes over once spacecraft reach orbit, navigating everything from commercial constellations to lunar exploration. "The talent pool there, manufacturing capabilities there, customer base there, supply chain based in Seattle, all make it very attractive to go there, and that is the reason we're opening up the engineering office," Mills told GeekWire. Agile joins a bustling Pacific Northwest aerospace cluster anchored by heavyweights like Blue Origin, SpaceX's Starlink engineering operations in Redmond, and a growing wave of startups and orbital logistics companies like Starfish Space. Overall, Agile employs 178 people across the business. The majority of its workforce is based at its Durango headquarters, alongside an additive manufacturing center in Pennsylvania and a 25,000-square-foot test center breaking ground in Tulsa, Okla. The Bellevue office is located at 3120-3180 139th Ave SE. Backed by a $17 million Series A funding round earlier this year, Agile has scaled rapidly, and revenue over the last three years has more than tripled. Investors include Caruso Ventures, Howdy Partners, Lockheed Martin Ventures, Veteran Ventures, Denver Ventures, and Cortado Ventures, among others. Even as Agile plants a flag in the region, the expansion comes amid growing caution over Washington state's business climate. Mills noted that the company shares the same concerns recently voiced by Stoke Space CEO Andy Lapsa - who warned during Seattle Space Week in September that if starting over today, "I'm not sure we'd make the same decision" to build in Washington, given local tax and political pressures. While Agile is eager to tap into the local engineering talent for its Bellevue office, Mills cautioned that future investments, such as a prospective manufacturing and system integration facility, could face headwinds if Washington doesn't match the aggressive incentives and welcoming posture shown by competing states like Oklahoma. "I'm just biased towards the opportunity that when you get all the right people in the right place and you have that competition, you have all the capabilities that you need in one place, great things happen," Mills said. "As people disperse from that, you start to lose that opportunity."

Bezos predicts 3-day workweek and single-income households as AI boosts productivity

Jeff Bezos predicts AI will enable three-day workweeks and a return to single-income households. Speaking to Fox News, the Amazon founder said AI-driven productivity will allow people to support their families whilst working fewer hours. Bezos suggested labour shortages may emerge as families no longer require two incomes. "It's going to be difficult to hire people, because the productivity in the economy will make it so that people don't want to work two jobs," he said. Amazon plans to spend over $200 billion on capital expenditures this year, largely for data centres, whilst cutting approximately 30,000 corporate roles since late last year. Bezos' net worth has reached $365 billion, boosted partly by Blue Origin's recent $10 billion funding round, which valued the space company at $140 billion.
