About the Job

Requirements

  • Have at least 8 years of software engineering experience and a track record of shipping production systems end-to-end.
  • Have hands-on experience building with large language models and agentic systems, including prompt engineering, context and tool design, evaluation, and orchestration.
  • Have production-level experience with modern AI coding assistants and agentic developer tools, and a clear perspective on when and how they add value.
  • Have working knowledge of applied machine learning fundamentals sufficient to help move a heuristic system toward a machine-learning-based approach, including features, evaluation, model selection, and collaboration with or work as a data scientist.
  • Be able to drive technical adoption across an engineering organization without direct authority, through credibility, clear communication, and working software.
  • Have strong product instincts for internal tooling, including speaking with fellow engineers as users, prioritizing, and shipping iteratively.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable presenting roadmaps, tradeoffs, and results to engineering leadership.
  • Have prior experience in a staff- or principal-level individual-contributor role, ideally with cross-team or platform scope.

Responsibilities

  • Act as engineering's subject-matter expert on generative AI, agentic systems, and AI-assisted software development, tracking the landscape to distinguish durable capabilities from hype.
  • Meet with every engineering team to diagnose workflows and pain points and translate findings into a prioritized backlog of AI-enabled solutions.
  • Own the AI enablement roadmap end-to-end by proposing it, securing engineering leadership buy-in, executing against it, and reporting on impact.
  • Evaluate and pilot AI coding assistants and agentic tools, and make evidence-based adoption decisions calibrated to the team's size, technology stack, and AI fluency.
  • Design, build, and operate specialized automation agents for high-friction engineering and operational workflows using a shared architecture that supports adding agents quickly and reliably.
  • Instrument and measure the impact of each automation, including time saved, quality improvement, and adoption, and iterate based on actual usage.
  • Partner with teams across the business to modernize rules-based or heuristic systems into more data-driven, machine-learning-informed approaches, working with data and clinical stakeholders where relevant.
  • Define lightweight adoption frameworks and guardrails for quality, security, cost, and responsible use so tools and agents can be rolled out safely and repeatably.
  • Promote AI and automation best practices across engineering through documentation, demonstrations, brown bags, and hands-on pairing with teams.
  • Make the tradeoffs of AI approaches, including build versus buy, cost, latency, quality, and risk, understandable to engineers and leadership.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have experience building internal AI enablement programs, developer-experience platforms, or lightweight AI governance frameworks.
  • Have experience in healthcare, health technology, or another regulated industry.
  • Be familiar with vector search, retrieval-augmented generation, model evaluation frameworks, and observability for large-language-model systems.
  • Have experience with conversational AI or virtual assistant products.
