Electrical Designer - Switchgear Designer
About the job
- An Associate’s Degree or Technology Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
- Experience reading and producing electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and wiring diagrams for switchgear or similar power distribution equipment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for electrical design.
- Working knowledge of UL standards applicable to switchgear, the National Electrical Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and power distribution equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to design accuracy, documentation quality, and adherence to established engineering processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Work with the engineering team to develop complete electrical design packages for low- and medium-voltage switchgear in accordance with customer specifications and applicable codes and standards under the direction of a Lead or Design Engineer.
- Assist Electrical Design Engineers with day-to-day design tasks, including drawing updates, bills of materials, and engineering transmittals.
- Support computer-aided design activities, including updating drawings, redlines, schematic revisions, and support on the shop floor under the direction of a Lead or Design Engineer.
- Assist with the organization and maintenance of engineering documentation and reference materials.
- Create and maintain accurate part descriptions in the engineering and enterprise resource planning systems (Infor/WorkNet), ensuring consistency and adherence to IEM naming standards.
- Review and update existing part records to correct inaccuracies, eliminate duplicates, and align descriptions with current design standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer.
- Prior experience in a custom switchgear, motor control center, or power distribution manufacturing environment.
