Stop wasting ad spend: How CallRail and Nutshell help small businesses optimize their marketing.

Stop wasting ad spend: How CallRail and Nutshell help small businesses optimize their marketing. Last updated on: October 8, 2026 For small businesses, every marketing dollar has to work twice as hard, and every call is a potential new customer. But most run into the same blind spot: they can't tell which marketing efforts are causing the phone to ring. That attribution gap leaves you guessing which channels bring in new customers, and which ones waste your ad budget. CallRail has built a native integration with Nutshell that connects your call attribution data directly to your Nutshell records, so your team can see not just that a lead called in, but where it came from - and follow it all the way through to a closed deal. Key takeaways. * Unattributed phone calls hide which campaigns and channels are driving leads, so ad budget often flows toward the wrong sources. * The native Nutshell integration built by CallRail writes first-touch attribution and AI call summaries directly to each contact record, and Voice Assist answers the calls your team can't take. * With call data attached to every Nutshell record, you can measure cost per customer instead of cost per lead and shift spend toward the channels that close deals. Table of contents. The problem: Marketing spend without proof. Say you're running a Google Ads campaign, a Local Services Ads listing, and SEO at the same time. Calls start coming in, so clearly something's working. But which campaign gets the credit? With no way to trace a call back to its source, you're stuck guessing. That's the real cost of unattributed phone calls: they quietly skew where you invest your marketing budget. A channel driving high-intent phone calls can look weak next to one generating a high volume of clicks that never convert. Without the data to prove otherwise, your budget keeps flowing in the wrong direction. Call Tracking: See exactly what's driving your calls. Call Tracking assigns a unique, trackable phone number to each of your marketing sources - a specific ad, keyword, campaign, or piece of direct mail. When a lead interacts with your website, it goes a step further. Through dynamic number insertion, each visitor sees a phone number that matches how they got there. Someone who clicked your Google Ad sees one number, while someone who found you through organic search sees a different one. Call Tracking also captures what they did while on your site, like which pages they visited and how long they stayed. So by the time the phone rings, you already know which channel brought them there and what they were looking for. Every number still forwards to your main line, so nothing changes for your team. What does change is that you now know exactly which marketing is causing the phone to ring, so you can put your budget behind the channels that are actually driving revenue. From attribution to action. Call Tracking alone tells you which marketing source caused the phone to ring. It doesn't tell you what happened next: whether anyone followed up, what the lead needed, or whether they became a customer. That's where Nutshell comes in. Nutshell is an all-in-one CRM built for small businesses that brings email marketing and contact management together in one place. It keeps your contacts organized and your follow-up automated, so more of your leads turn into closed deals. When CallRail's marketing attribution data flows directly into Nutshell, those two halves come together on the same record - the source that started the lead, and everything that happened after. Voice Assist: Backup for the calls your team can't take. Attribution only matters if someone answers the phone. For small businesses, that's not always possible: you're with a customer, your receptionist is already on another line, or it's after business hours and nobody's there to pick up. A missed call is a missed lead, and the ad spend that generated it goes to waste. Voice Assist is CallRail's AI voice agent that answers calls when your team can't. It greets callers, works through intake questions, and captures their details and any callback requests. It can even schedule appointments directly through Google Calendar or Calendly, so your calendar keeps filling even when nobody's there to pick up. And because Voice Assist connects to Nutshell in real time, it recognizes returning contacts the moment they call. It greets known leads by name and skips the intake questions they've already answered. How the native CallRail x Nutshell integration works. Instead of chasing down where each lead came from, everything you need appears in Nutshell automatically. The moment a tracked call comes in, the work is already done: * You stop copying leads by hand. CallRail automatically creates or updates the contact in Nutshell, so nothing gets lost between the call and the follow-up. * You reach out already knowing what the lead wanted. With Premium Conversation Intelligence(TM) enabled, an AI-generated call summary lands right on the contact in Nutshell, so your team understands the context of each call without replaying the entire recording. * You know which campaign earned the lead. First-touch attribution (source, medium, campaign, and landing page) is written straight to the contact record, so you can see what drove every lead without opening a second tool. * You give returning callers a personalized experience. Voice Assist recognizes existing contacts in real time, greeting known leads by name and skipping questions they've already answered. Why CallRail and Nutshell work better together. Connecting calls to campaigns is just the first step. The real benefit shows up when your attribution data follows the lead all the way through to a closed deal. Cost per customer instead of cost per lead. With call tracking data attached directly to every Nutshell record, you can see exactly how many leads from each channel turned into closed deals, what they were worth, and how long they took to close. One source of truth for every lead. From the campaign that caused the first call to the deal that closed in Nutshell, everything lives in one place - so your team is never piecing together the story from two different tools. Smarter marketing spend. With call attribution data attached to each record in Nutshell, you can see exactly which channels are driving calls that turn into customers, then shift your budget toward what's working. Stop operating in the dark. Get a complete picture of your marketing with the native Nutshell integration built by CallRail. About CallRail. CallRail is the lead engagement platform that makes it easy for businesses to track and optimize their marketing, capture every lead, and convert more calls into customers. CallRail expands partnership with Constant Contact through native integration.

CallRail expands partnership with Constant Contact through native integration. Oct 01, 2026, 08:32 ET New integration ensures every tracked call or text lands in your email marketing platform automatically, with attribution data and AI summary ATLANTA, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - CallRail, the AI-powered lead engagement platform, today announced it has expanded its longstanding partnership with Constant Contact. The companies have launched a native integration that automatically creates new contacts or updates existing ones in Constant Contact from tracked calls and texts, complete with attribution data. Lead information often gets siloed across the platforms marketing teams use to manage conversations and follow-up. Businesses now know who called, why, and what to do next, so they can follow up faster and with greater context. Previously available through a third-party Zapier connection, the integration is now native, creating a more direct connection between CallRail and Constant Contact. For agencies and business owners, this means less manual work and cleaner lead tracking without anyone having to touch a spreadsheet. Leads are automatically added to Constant Contact with the information teams need to take the next step, while customers using CallRail's Premium Conversation Intelligence also receive AI-generated summaries for recorded calls. "When a lead calls, marketers need to know three things: who they are, what they said, and why they called. This integration delivers all three directly into Constant Contact, so follow-up is smarter from the start," said Marc Ginsberg, CEO of CallRail. "This integration gives every business the full picture on every lead." With the native CallRail and Constant Contact integration, users can: * Capture Every Lead Automatically. Every tracked call or text automatically creates or updates a contact in Constant Contact: name, phone, email, location, and company already filled in. * Know What Drove Every Conversation. Marketing attribution data, including source, medium, campaign and landing page, is automatically written to each contact record, allowing marketers to build more targeted segments without leaving Constant Contact. * Follow up with More Context. Every contact lands in a dedicated "CallRail Leads" list, eliminating extra segmentation work. Customers using Premium Conversation Intelligence can go a step further and leverage automation to tag leads based on call context, unlocking behavior-based marketing within Constant Contact. A call about a specific inquiry can automatically get enrolled in a relevant email nurture campaign. * Recognize Returning Customers. For businesses using Voice Assist, the AI voice agent can look up matching Constant Contact records by email address in real time, allowing it to greet recognized contacts by name during a live call. "CallRail and Constant Contact are two tools agencies and SMBs already rely on. Connecting them natively means they work smarter together, and marketing teams get the full picture on every lead without leaving their email platform. That's the integration working the way it should," shared Jay Schweldson, Founder and CEO of GURU Media Hub and Brand Ambassador for both CallRail and Constant Contact. "At Constant Contact, we're focused on giving small businesses and the agencies that serve them the tools they need to market smarter and build lasting customer relationships," said Funbi Ibe, Director of Partner Marketing at Constant Contact. "Our integration with CallRail helps our customers connect the dots between their marketing efforts and real customer conversations, so they can make more informed decisions that drive better results." Partnership Continues at Upcoming Guru Conference CallRail will showcase the expanded partnership as a platinum sponsor of Constant Contact's GURU Conference, the world's largest virtual email marketing conference, taking place virtually on November 12-13. Emily Popson, SVP of Marketing at CallRail, will lead a session on the reality of unattributed leads across channels and how to connect marketing efforts to real conversations for ROI clarity. CallRail launches real-time lead qualification and intelligent call transfers in Voice Assist.

CallRail launches real-time lead qualification and intelligent call transfers in Voice Assist. Custom AI agents now qualify callers, route leads, and brief teams before every transfer, giving businesses time back and customers a better experience. CallRail, the AI-powered lead engagement platform, announced a major expansion of Voice Assist, its AI voice and text assistant, adding real-time lead qualification and intelligent call transfer. Voice Assist now qualifies callers, identifies intent, and routes each call to the optimal destination - briefing the team before handoff for a seamless customer experience. Spam and other distractions are filtered out, so only qualified leads reach a representative. For 15 years, CallRail has connected the dots between marketing campaigns and the calls that turn into customers. Now the company is taking what it has learned from tracking and analyzing 300 million leads a year and putting it to work during the call itself, reshaping every step of the inbound call process to deliver a better customer experience, ensure no leads are missed, and give businesses back time. "Every customer deserves a fast response, but not every conversation requires pulling an employee away from their work," said Ryan Johnson, Chief Product Officer at CallRail. "Voice Assist gives teams the confidence that every call or text will be handled, including ones they may have missed. It can not only answer routine questions and schedule appointments, but simultaneously identify qualified, high-intent leads and route them to the right person in real time. The result is fewer interruptions for your team, more productive conversations with your leads, and a better experience for every customer." The advanced capabilities within Voice Assist combine three connected functions into a comprehensive inbound call management experience: * Lead qualification: Voice Assist screens every inbound call and text against custom criteria live during the conversation. This includes filtering out spam, callers outside of your service area and low value leads. This allows team members to only spend time on the leads that matter. * Intent-based routing: Voice Assist automatically detects why someone is calling and routes them to the appropriate person or destination. With no guessing, end-users are directed faster and more accurately than having to wait for and guess on the right menu option. * Automated warm transfers: Voice Assist dramatically improves the customer experience by providing a quick summary as it transfers to your team member, so they can provide the best service without requesting information already shared by the lead. For too long, teams have faced an impossible choice: answer every call and waste time on spam and unqualified leads, or screen aggressively and risk missing real opportunities. Voice Assist eliminates that trade-off. Unlike standalone AI voice agents, it's built into the CallRail platform, connecting lead quality, caller intent, and marketing performance so businesses can identify which campaigns drive their best leads and optimize marketing spend to acquire more customers. The results speak for themselves. Callers are 7x more likely to engage with Voice Assist than voicemail, and businesses using it have seen answered calls increase by up to 44%. Businesses can now trust that the right calls reach the right people quickly, and they have the context they need to move those conversations forward. "We are very happy with Voice Assist. It has given our front desk staff more time to focus on scheduling new patients and increasing access to care," said Christian Losch, COO at BrainWorks Behavioral Health. "Our new patients are routed to the best place for them to begin intake and our current patients are connected with the right people more efficiently."
