Anthropic opens Singapore office, its fifth in Asia-Pacific

Anthropic will open its fifth Asia-Pacific office in Singapore this October. The AI company appointed Dale Finlay as general manager for ASEAN, based in Singapore, to work with regional customers and partners. The firm already operates offices in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul, and Sydney. Anthropic noted particularly strong demand in Singapore's regulated sectors, including financial services and government. According to Anthropic's latest Economic Index, Singapore ranks second among 121 countries for Claude.ai usage relative to population. Usage in Singapore is 5.81 times higher than expected based on population size alone. The expansion reflects Anthropic's growing focus on the Asia-Pacific region as it scales its operations internationally.

Anthropic launches AI 'starter pack' for small businesses with 900K installations

Anthropic is launching a major push to attract small businesses to its AI assistant Claude. Since May, the company's Claude for Small Business plugin has garnered 900,000 installations. The AI company is expanding beyond corporate clients by hosting workshops and training "Approved Claude SMB Trainers" who must commit to running five sessions for small businesses by year-end. This week, Anthropic added new integrations with Shopify, Stripe, and Zoom. Small businesses represent a significant opportunity, employing over 45% of US private sector workers. However, adoption faces challenges. Some business owners report receiving backlash from customers for using AI-generated content, including one-star reviews. Lina Ochman, Anthropic's head of US small and medium businesses, said most owners are still experimenting with AI rather than automating large portions of their operations. She noted concerns about accuracy and security remain common. Rival OpenAI has also introduced a small business programme this year.

Rubrik Code Guardian harnesses Claude Mythos 5 to red-team code and prioritise cyber risks

Rubrik has launched Rubrik Code Guardian, a service that uses Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 AI model to detect vulnerabilities in customers' code. The platform analyses code from air-gapped repository copies, identifying multi-step vulnerability chains that attackers could exploit. The service validates potential exploits and prioritises them based on business criticality before pushing confirmed issues into developer workflows through tools like Jira or GitHub. Rubrik developed the technology after testing it on its own code. "Frontier models are advancing at a fast pace. In the wrong hands, these models can be used to discover, chain, and exploit vulnerabilities at machine speed," said Arvind Nithrakashyap, co-founder and chief technology officer at Rubrik. The product is currently accepting select design partners for private preview.

Claude for Financial Advisors launch met with cautious optimism from industry analysts

Anthropic's launch of Claude for Financial Advisors has drawn mixed reactions from wealth management technology analysts and providers. Industry veteran Alois Pirker of Pirker Partners expressed skepticism about whether the AI tool can achieve the specificity financial advisors require, comparing it to Salesforce's initial Financial Services rollout a decade ago. Will Trout from Datos Insights questioned whether Claude will actually improve the statistic that advisors spend only one-sixth of their time in client meetings. He noted that whilst promised workflow efficiencies are welcome, integration with platforms like Schwab, Addepar, and Orion will be crucial proof points. Technology providers were more enthusiastic. Orion's Reed Colley emphasised that Claude's value lies in connecting large language models with advisors' existing permissioned data. Wealth.com CEO Rafael Loureiro called it "the most important thing to happen to our industry in a decade," whilst cautioning that domain expertise remains essential for complex planning tasks requiring deterministic calculations rather than probabilistic AI outputs.

Amazon gains 1.6% as $53B Anthropic windfall faces weapons misuse test

Amazon shares rose 1.6% to $255.77 on Friday after Anthropic, the AI developer, disclosed it had disrupted suspected misuse of its Claude system linked to biological research, weapons development and cyber operations. Anthropic detailed five cases involving research that could assist biological-weapons development, plus suspected state-linked cyber campaigns. The security challenge comes as Amazon's stake in Anthropic generated $53.4 billion in non-operating pretax income during the second quarter, roughly 3.2 times AWS's quarterly operating income of $16.62 billion. Anthropic has committed to purchasing over $100 billion of AWS computing capacity over ten years, making the relationship both a major investment and substantial cloud contract. Amazon currently trades 3.22% above its fair value estimate of $247.80.
