Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in medical records-related work is required.
  • Completion of at least one year and continued enrollment in a Health Information Management or Health Information Technology program may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidates must be able to perform job functions, follow directions, and make independent decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of computers and internet navigation is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, and shared file management, is required.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy are required.
  • Excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with internal and external customers are required.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service to patients, families, caregivers, physicians, auditors, external agencies, and hospital staff.
  • Respond to requests for medical records and health information received by phone, email, fax, written correspondence, or in person.
  • Ensure the accurate, timely, and complete release of health information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for inquiries related to medical records and protected health information.
  • Verify and process requests while maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient records.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, departmental procedures, and HIPAA regulations governing the release of information.
  • Facilitate effective communication between stakeholders and the Health Information Management department.
  • Support compliance efforts by ensuring all disclosures of health information are properly authorized and documented.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with Medical Records Release of Information processes is preferred.
  • Experience with the Epic electronic health record system is a plus.
