Requirements
  • Applicants for part-time employment must be at least 16 years old.
  • A current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization, such as the Red Cross, is required, although the employer can facilitate certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillator and first aid certifications are required, although the employer can facilitate certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Administering Emergency Oxygen certification is required, although the employer can facilitate certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong swimming abilities are required.
  • The employee must be observant and able to react calmly, quickly, and with good judgment during an emergency.
  • The employee must be able to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Employees must complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, comply with mandated reporting requirements, and adhere to abuse prevention policies and appropriate boundaries.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and in surrounding areas by continuously observing the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules, and maintaining emergency readiness.
  • Perform duties related to opening or closing the pool as needed.
  • Rescue distressed persons and examine injured persons.
  • Administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation when necessary, using training, rescue techniques, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform equipment checks, ensure appropriate equipment is available, and promptly report problems.
  • Provide customer service to members, program participants, and guests.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform poolside chemical testing.
  • Set up and store equipment for recreational swims.

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively may be considered.
