Requirements
  • A doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) with primary study in Clinical Psychology.
  • A Georgia license as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Completion of one year of supervised clinical internship.
  • Current CPR certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide psychological evaluations and psychotherapeutic services to medical patients and, when appropriate, significant others.
  • Consult with physicians, nurses, pastoral care, and other medical staff and make recommendations for appropriate services.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to multidisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Provide recommendations for health psychology program development when appropriate.
  • Perform psychological screenings and evaluations to assess psychological functioning.
  • Diagnose mental, emotional, and personality disorders.
  • Provide psychotherapy, crisis intervention, group therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy appropriate to patients' needs.
  • Document therapeutic interventions and patients' responses.
  • Provide educational services to patients, family members or significant others, and the community.
  • Evaluate patients' need for psychiatric hospitalization.
  • Coordinate and manage psychological support for hospitalized patients requiring health psychology services.
  • Present in-service educational programs to physicians, nurses, pastoral care, and mental health staff upon request.
  • Supervise doctoral and post-doctoral psychology trainees when assigned.
  • Develop and implement new programs and clinical services for the department when assigned.
  • Maintain clinical and theoretical knowledge by attending continuing education programs.
  • Practice proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and immediately report equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, and injuries or accidents.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a medical setting evaluating and treating patients for psychological factors associated with medical problems.
