About the job

Requirements
  • Ask focused questions to understand candidate motivations and use those insights to inform recruiting conversations.
  • Assess candidate quality beyond credentials, including evidence of what makes candidates effective beyond their employer or education.
  • Prioritize candidate quality and escalate concerns rather than advancing borderline candidates.
  • Build proactive talent pipelines rather than relying only on inbound candidates.
  • Raise search risks early and support concerns with data.
  • Manage multiple concurrent searches while maintaining communication with candidates and hiring managers.
  • Work effectively in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment without needing every step defined in advance.
  • Have 2–4 years of full-cycle recruiting experience in a startup, technology company, or staffing/agency environment.
Responsibilities
  • Own 4–6 concurrent full-cycle searches from first outreach through offer close.
  • Source candidates from high-bar organizations, engage passive candidates, assess quality from limited information, and distinguish strong candidates from merely good candidates before formal interviews.
  • Maintain accurate applicant tracking system data, follow recruiting playbooks, flag breakdowns early, and share observations about pipeline health with the team.
  • Run structured hiring-manager kickoffs, set expectations for process and timelines, maintain hiring-manager engagement, and coach hiring managers toward better evaluation.
  • Reject candidates who do not meet the bar, even when pipelines are thin or timelines are tight, and support decisions with evidence of specific gaps.
  • Set standards that enable recruiting-team members to make decisions independently.
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical recruiting exposure is a plus, but is not required.

About the company

January is a debt collection platform that serves creditors (banks and financial institutions) and borrowers (individuals or businesses who owe money). It uses a tech-enabled approach to improve debt recovery by applying machine learning to optimize collection strategies while prioritizing compliant, respectful interactions. The platform automates adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and increases recovery rates for creditors, reducing legal and reputational risk. Its key differentiator is combining data-driven autorecovery optimization with a personalized, human-centric approach, treating borrowers with dignity instead of treating them as numbers. The business earns revenue by charging creditors for using the platform, based on the improved recovery outcomes and lower risk. The goal is to raise recovery rates, lower risk, and set a higher standard for ethical debt collection in the financial services industry.
