Requirements

  • Proficiency with inspection tools and measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, color/density meters, and vision systems.
  • Strong analytical and structured root-cause problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain quality issues clearly to operators, leads, and management, and present findings to audiences ranging from hourly employees to executive leadership.
  • Ability to manage multiple cross-functional projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, specifications, drawings, and procedures is a plus.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and quality management or ERP systems.
  • Ability to distinguish colors; read fine print at close range; see clearly at a distance; perceive depth; and adjust focus.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and move frequently through production areas.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and inspection equipment weighing up to 35 pounds; heavier items may be handled with assistance or equipment.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, work in low positions or confined spaces, reach overhead and below shoulder level, and handle small parts, samples, and measurement tools with manual dexterity.
  • Ability to push and pull carts, equipment, and materials within the production area.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, and safety shoes, and comply with safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, noise, potential hazards, and possible exposure to dust, fumes, and strong odors.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays as production demands, while remaining alert during long shifts and high-pressure situations.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections of raw materials, in-process production, and finished products to verify conformance to specifications and customer requirements.
  • Perform visual, functional, dimensional, and measurement-based inspections using calibrated tools and testing equipment, including calipers, micrometers, color/density meters, and vision systems.
  • Pull samples according to inspection plans and conduct first-piece, in-process, and final inspections across production runs.
  • Verify production setups before runs begin and release lines to production only when setups meet quality standards.
  • Audit operator self-checks and ensure inspection plans are followed across shifts and machines.
  • Identify defects, inconsistencies, and non-conforming materials early in the process, and isolate suspect material to prevent it from moving downstream.
  • Document defects with clear descriptions and, where appropriate, photos, including traceability details for machine, operator, shift, material lot, and time.
  • Investigate recurring quality issues using structured problem-solving methods, including 5 Whys, fishbone, and Pareto analysis, and drive corrective and preventive actions through closure.
  • Escalate persistent or systemic issues to the Quality Supervisor and Manufacturing leadership, and partner on containment as needed.
  • Monitor manufacturing processes for adherence to documented procedures, quality standards, and customer specifications.
  • Apply Statistical Process Control techniques to detect process drift and identify improvement opportunities before defects occur.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, scrap, and rework; propose changes and pilot improvements with Manufacturing.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and validating quality control procedures, work instructions, and inspection checklists.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of inspections, test results, defect reports, and corrective actions.
  • Generate timely quality reports for Production leadership, Engineering, and the broader Quality organization.
  • Track defect rate, first-pass yield, scrap, customer complaints, and audit findings, and surface trends with actionable recommendations.
  • Keep quality documentation organized and retrievable according to company and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality policies, safety standards, and applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Participate in internal audits and support external customer, supplier, and certification audits as needed.
  • Maintain calibration records for inspection equipment and verify gauge accuracy on schedule.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Operators, Leads, Operator Trainers, Engineering, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues quickly and durably.
  • Provide actionable, constructive feedback to production teams when quality issues arise, framing them as shared problems to solve rather than enforcement.
  • Support Operator Trainers and Manufacturing leadership when new standard operating procedures, materials, equipment, or customer specifications are introduced.
  • Coach operators on quality standards and help them self-correct to reinforce that every operator is a quality checker.
  • Follow safety, personal protective equipment, and lockout/tagout policies at all times.
  • Report hazards, near-misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Verify that operators follow safety protocols during inspections and constructively identify gaps.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Experience in print, finishing, or card production environments.
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement certifications.
  • Experience with ERP or manufacturing tracking systems.
