Requirements
  • Graduate from a full-time police academy certified by the Massachusetts Police Training Council, a Special State Police Officer Academy offered by the Massachusetts State Police, or an approved Part-Time Intermittent Academy with successful completion of the required MPTC bridge Academy.
  • Complete basic police firearms instruction and qualification and/or recent re-qualification.
  • Maintain Hepatitis B vaccination and training compliant with OSHA regulations throughout employment.
  • Have knowledge of modern public safety and police practices, including patrol, communications and dispatching, emergency medical and first-responder services, investigation, crime prevention, and community policing.
  • Have strong human relations skills and the ability to analyze emergency and non-emergency situations and develop effective courses of action.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills and knowledge of criminal laws, court procedures, and alternative administrative practices.
  • Demonstrate commitment to providing law enforcement and security services in a multicultural community.
  • Have knowledge of problem-solving methods and the ability to learn the operating procedures of Babson College departments requiring constant interaction.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours, schedules, and overtime assignments.
  • Maintain a valid unrestricted United States driver’s license held for at least one year and an insurable or satisfactory driving record.
  • Successfully complete the College’s vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment and required safety training.
  • Obtain and retain authority as a special state police officer under Massachusetts General Law c. 22c, section 63.
  • Meet the educational and training academy requirements for certification as a Special State Police Officer and POST certification under MGL 555 CMR 1.0.
  • Meet all requirements for becoming a Special Police Officer in the Towns of Wellesley and Needham.
  • Maintain a valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Massachusetts Firearm License to Carry Class A.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and report allegations of Clery Act crimes to the Public Safety Department.
  • Maintain good mental and physical condition and undergo psychological evaluations, drug testing, and fitness-for-duty examinations as required.
Responsibilities
  • Patrol the college campus to protect the safety of the campus community, buildings, and property.
  • Maintain familiarity with applicable laws, Public Safety Department policies and procedures, and Babson College rules and regulations.
  • Enforce the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Babson College policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prevent theft, vandalism, trespass, and other criminal and policy violations, and investigate and document reports according to department policies and procedures.
  • Provide community engagement services, assistance, and resources to members of the Babson College community.
  • Perform traffic and parking enforcement, foot and mobile patrols and escorts, desk communications and dispatching, and security for special events.
  • Respond to routine service calls and emergency calls.
  • Provide testimony at criminal court proceedings and participate in Babson College’s Office of Community Standards internal process.
  • Train other Public Safety personnel as necessary.
  • Perform additional assignments and responsibilities as required.
  • Perform training, special projects, and community engagement activities virtually or in person when directed, and document them appropriately.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous police experience, especially in a college or university police department, in a sworn or non-sworn position.
  • Specialized public safety-related training and certifications.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
