About the Job

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing and growing engineering teams.
  • Strong background in mechanical assembly, electromechanical integration, and test system development.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design tools; CATIA and AutoCAD are preferred.
  • Familiarity with automation equipment, control systems, torque tools, and communication protocols, including programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, and supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
  • Hands-on experience with quality control matrices, testing protocols, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Proven track record of launching new products from concept through high-volume production, including design for manufacturability, process and equipment development, line installation, commissioning, and rate ramp.
  • Experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or similarly complex manufacturing environments; ability to learn and adapt to the challenges of humanoid robotics manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and drive results in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a team of manufacturing engineers; set clear expectations, drive accountability, and foster continuous improvement and disciplined execution.
  • Own the full Optimus Assembly and Test product launch lifecycle from early-stage concept through prototype, pilot, and high-volume production ramp, ensuring on-time delivery at designed rate.
  • Partner with hardware and design engineering teams early in product development to drive design for manufacturability initiatives and simplify product designs for mass manufacturability, reducing complexity and cost.
  • Lead development, specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of assembly and test equipment; ensure lines are brought up on schedule and validated to meet quality and throughput requirements.
  • Drive line balancing, capacity planning, and bottleneck resolution to reach designed production rates; implement process controls and monitoring to sustain rate and quality.
  • Deliver clear, concise, data-driven updates to senior leadership and executives; surface risks, propose solutions, and align stakeholders across Design, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations.
  • Apply and enforce engineering rigor and operational discipline; use first-principles thinking to eliminate waste, reduce cycle time, and drive scalable automation where appropriate.
  • Develop documentation, work instructions, and training materials to support transition from engineering to sustaining operations teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CATIA and AutoCAD.

About the Company

Tesla

Makes electric cars, robotaxis and grid batteries

Tesla makes electric cars and batteries that store power for homes and utilities, and it develops self-driving software and humanoid robots. In 2023, its Model Y became the first electric vehicle to rank as the world's best-selling car. Buyers order the Model 3 sedan, Model Y SUV, or Cybertruck pickup directly from Tesla instead of through dealers, and they charge on its Supercharger fast-charging network. It also sells Megapack and Powerwall batteries, runs a robotaxi service, and charges drivers a monthly fee for self-driving software that still needs their supervision. Tesla was founded in 2003, with Elon Musk as its lead early investor and a recognized co-founder, and it is based in Austin, Texas.
