Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree or greater in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience.
  • At least five years of experience as a product development engineer, including development engineering and leading hardware products through design, drawing release, supplier selection, prototype sourcing and testing, pre-production issue resolution, and production launch.
  • At least five years of experience as a project manager managing multiple engineering projects and project teams through all phases of the design and development cycle.
  • Experience producing integrated project schedules and reports in Microsoft Project or a comparable system, identifying dependencies, critical path, free slack, resource utilization, cost, and risks and issues.
  • Basic technical knowledge of unmanned aircraft systems, their subsystems, and technology.
  • Must be a U.S. Person under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations definition, including a U.S. citizen, green card holder, or person covered under an existing ITAR license.
Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain the master engineering project schedule and risks and issues register for projects of all sizes and complexity from proposal and planning through execution and completion.
  • Drive project teams’ weekly goal setting and achievements while maintaining current project status through frequent, efficient small meetings and minimized large-group meeting time.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables and coordination are included in project activities, including approvals, bills of materials, drawing release, work-instruction development, configuration control, hardware lead times, inspections, manufacturing trials, manufacturing tool kits, parts kits, verification testing, and reporting.
  • Identify and track risks and issues, determine dependencies, prioritize items, acquire dispositions, assign ownership, and coordinate mitigation and resolution activities.
  • Forecast, identify, and remove obstacles from project teams’ paths to minimize delays and maintain focus on core deliverables.
  • Create work breakdown structures from team-member input and add missing fundamental steps required to achieve project deliverables.
  • Analyze high-level milestones, dependencies, critical path, free slack, resource utilization, risks and issues, and cost.
  • Create weekly status briefs and materials for project reviews.
  • Maintain the backlog of projects and efforts and ensure periodic review and disposition of priorities.
  • Develop and continually improve the engineering project management function, including its processes and tools.
  • Coordinate and perform necessary hands-on technical work, engineering change process documentation, and otherwise unassigned administrative work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with product data management or enterprise resource planning systems.
  • Experience managing or supporting software development projects in compliance with DO-178 certification standards for airborne systems.

Airbus A350F freighter completes maiden flight with 4.3m cargo door for servers

Airbus has successfully completed the first flight of its A350F freighter, bringing the aerospace giant closer to delivering a high-capacity cargo aircraft. The plane took off from Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France, flying for four hours and ten minutes and reaching 25,000 feet. The A350F can carry a payload of 109 tonnes, compared to 64 tonnes for the existing A330F. It features a 4.3-metre cargo door large enough to accommodate turbofan engines and high-density computer servers. Airbus claims the A350F is more efficient than Boeing's rival 777F, despite having slightly less capacity. The company has already received orders for 115 A350Fs. A second test aircraft is nearly complete as Airbus begins the certification process requiring hundreds of test flights.

Airbus and Qantas back $30M funding for Australian SAF developer Jet Zero

Jet Zero Australia has raised $30 million to advance Project Ulysses, a commercial-scale sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel refinery in Townsville. The funding round was backed by institutional investors including Qantas and Airbus, both returning investors from 2023. South Korean company Posco International joined as a new strategic investor, with the parties exploring opportunities in fuel offtake, infrastructure and feedstock. The capital will fund completion of Front-End Engineering Design and support the project's progress towards Final Investment Decision and construction. Founded in 2021 by Ed Mason, Jet Zero develops biofuels production capacity in regional Australia. The project has received its final Development Permit Decision Notice from Queensland's Office of the Coordinator-General. It is expected to create approximately 1,000 construction jobs and 100 permanent operational roles.

Airbus shelves stricter office return plan after Spanish union strikes

Airbus has postponed its plan to reduce remote working after strikes by Spanish unions, Reuters reports. The aerospace manufacturer will allow employees to continue working from home an average of two days per week, shelving indefinitely a push to limit remote work to one day. Chief Executive Guillaume Faury had sought to require white-collar staff on-site four days weekly by September, citing the need for knowledge transfer. Spanish unions said roughly 40% of Airbus's 14,000 Spanish employees have walked out over remote work policies, transport, leave and wages. An Airbus spokesperson said the company would implement the transition "more gradually" based on employee feedback. French unions estimate a quarter to a third of Airbus's workforce has been hired in the past three years. Aircraft production has not been affected by the disruptions.
