Greek technology to equip new Leopard 2A8 tanks under IDE-KNDS deal

Greek technology to equip new Leopard 2A8 tanks under IDE-KNDS deal. DEFENCE ReDEFiNED 04/09/2026 Greek defence technology will feature on one of the world's most advanced main battle tanks after INTRACOM DEFENSE (IDE) secured a contract from KNDS Germany to supply its WiSPRevo Communication and Information System (CIS) for newly manufactured Leopard 2A8 tanks destined for the international market. The contract further strengthens the longstanding partnership between IDE and KNDS while expanding the use of WiSPRevo on one of Europe's most prominent armoured fighting vehicle platforms. The integration will combine the Leopard 2A8's advanced operational capabilities with next-generation digital communications and networking technology, improving connectivity between crews, tactical radios, command-and-control systems, sensors and onboard computing applications. A key feature of WiSPRevo is its Dynamic Noise Reduction (DNR) technology, designed specifically for the demanding acoustic environment inside armoured vehicles. According to IDE, the technology improves the clarity of crew communications by significantly reducing ambient noise, while also helping protect personnel from hearing damage. It is also designed to enhance operators' situational awareness during missions. The system complies with EU Directive 2003/10/EC, which sets requirements for protecting workers from risks associated with exposure to noise. The contract also strengthens IDE's involvement in armoured vehicle programmes for NATO users and further expands the Greek company's footprint in the European defence industry. WiSPRevo has been developed around an adaptable architecture designed to evolve throughout a vehicle's operational life. It can accommodate new tactical radios, command-and-control applications, sensors and computing technologies, while allowing future upgrades to communications subsystems and broader C4ISR capabilities. The selection of WiSPRevo for newly built Leopard 2A8 tanks therefore represents a further expansion of Greek-developed defence technology within one of Europe's most significant modern land warfare platforms.

European anti-drone interceptor. Formerly known as the Small Anti-Drone Missile (SADM), the DEFENDAIR missile was designed to intercept small- to medium-sized drone threats at ranges greater than 5 kilometers (3 miles). MBDA describes it as a cost-effective solution, featuring a "maintenance-free configuration stowed in a protective container." It is undergoing integration with Rheinmetall's Skyranger 30 short-range air-defense vehicle to complement the vehicle's 30mm cannon and extend engagement range. The German Armed Forces are expecting the solution to be delivered by 2030. DEFENDAIR also showed the anti-drone missile's capability to pair with a high-energy laser weapon during the International Aerospace Exhibition in Berlin in June.
