Requirements
  • An associate degree in Occupational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, or demonstrated experience as an Activities Professional, is preferred but not required.
  • At least two years of experience, preferably in a resident activities program within a health care setting, is required.
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership and teamwork is required.
  • The ability to sustain activity and work long hours when necessary is required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to interact effectively with people at different organizational levels and communicate with and respect the needs of senior residents.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a courteous, helpful demeanor are required.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to develop conceptual alternatives are required.
  • The ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing activities practices is required.
  • The ability to plan, organize, develop, and implement the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the activities program is required.
  • The employee must be able to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, use their hands, reach with their hands and arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing activity programs according to care plan practices and resident needs.
  • Develop and implement activity policies and procedures.
  • Monitor changes in federal and state regulations and professional standards, and recommend policy and procedure changes to the Lifestyle Manager.
  • Coordinate activities required to complete project assignments within budget, quality, and scheduling guidelines.
  • Support management staff with community marketing efforts, including tours, community outreach, and work with current and potential residents and their families.
  • Provide indirect supervision of volunteers, including recruiting volunteer agencies and individuals as needed.
  • Ensure activity-related staff and volunteers are trained in the care plan process and understand senior residents' needs.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with staff involved in care plans and senior resident needs to support a comprehensive plan of care.
  • Lead, participate in, or attend activities functions across all shifts to maintain quality-control measures.
  • Visit residents and provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living when applicable.
  • Consult other properties about activities operations to identify problems and improve services.
  • Provide written and oral reports on programs and activities as required.
  • Report activities operational concerns to the Lifestyle Manager.
  • Participate in continuing education for personal growth and development.
