Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year Allied Health program, or a one-year Certificate in Surgical Technology, or an Associate Degree in Nursing, Special Procedures, Respiratory Therapy, Paramedic, or Radiology Technology with board eligibility.
  • If an RN, graduation from an approved School of Nursing with a current North Carolina RN license or RN multi-state licensure privilege through the Nursing Licensure Compact.
  • Registry examination completion within 18–24 months of the date in position.
  • On-call availability is required, with residence within 30 minutes of the hospital or use of the on-call rooms.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for electrophysiology procedures, explain the process, obtain informed consent, and monitor vital signs.
  • Set up and calibrate specialized electrophysiology equipment, including catheters, mapping systems, and stimulators.
  • Assist the cardiologist by positioning cardiac catheters within the heart chambers to record electrical activity.
  • Monitor and interpret real-time electrocardiogram readings during procedures, identify abnormal rhythms, and notify the physician.
  • Record and document procedural data, including electrograms, hemodynamic measurements, and fluoroscopic images.
  • Maintain sterile conditions in the electrophysiology laboratory throughout procedures.
  • Observe patient vital signs during procedures, identify complications, and take immediate action when necessary.
  • Communicate patient status and procedural progress to the cardiologist and other healthcare team members.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in an Invasive Cardiovascular Lab with a PTCA program or in a Critical Care area.
  • Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
