About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in field service engineering, service engineering, or technical support in a hardware- or robotics-intensive environment, including hands-on diagnosis and repair of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience designing and implementing diagnostic procedures, repair standards, or technical troubleshooting frameworks used by a field team.
  • Understanding of motor drives, actuators, sensors, embedded controllers, and hardware-software interaction in autonomous platforms.
  • Experience contributing to root cause analysis processes with product or design engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with field service ticketing platforms such as Zendesk or equivalent, Confluence, and JIRA.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of direct people-management experience, ideally leading a geographically distributed technical field team.
  • Ability to establish processes, documentation frameworks, and team norms in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to influence cross-functionally with Design, Mechanical, and Product Engineering teams and translate field observations into engineering-quality inputs.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation, including procedures, root cause analysis summaries, and campaign briefs.
  • Ability to analyze service data, identify trends, prioritize by impact, and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate with urgency in a fast-growing startup and build processes and playbooks.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3–5 Field Engineers by setting performance expectations, individual growth paths, and a disciplined engineering culture.
  • Establish team operating cadences, including escalation paths, weekly standups, escalation reviews, and 1:1s.
  • Define diagnostic procedures for field product-failure resolution, from initial triage through root cause confirmation and repair validation.
  • Build and maintain a Repair Standards Library for SlipBot and SlipLift failure modes, including remediation procedures, required tooling, and expected outcomes.
  • Convert individual expertise into documented, repeatable standards accessible across the organization.
  • Own hiring and onboarding for future Field Engineers as the team scales.
  • Ensure field-observed failures are documented for Service Engineering with symptoms, context, frequency, and operational impact.
  • Represent field operations in cross-functional root cause analysis sessions, design reviews, and product development discussions, translating observations into engineering-quality inputs.
  • Partner with Service Engineering on root cause analysis intake, resolution validation, and feedback loops; validate upstream fixes in the field and report outcomes.
  • Translate monthly fleet health findings from Service Engineering into updated repair standards, diagnostic procedures, and targeted campaigns.
  • Partner with Applications Engineering to incorporate fleet-wide technical standards into site-specific deployment configuration sheets during new customer onboarding.
  • Identify configuration or installation patterns correlated with downstream failures and provide findings to Applications Engineering's pre-deployment checklists.
  • Maintain JIRA tracking for field-side root cause analysis contributions, with tickets, owners, and statuses for systemic failures.
  • Own field campaigns end to end, including identifying failures or risks, developing remedies and procedures, coordinating deployment logistics with the team and customers, and confirming resolution across the fleet.
  • Prioritize campaigns based on safety impact, customer operational risk, and fleet-wide exposure.
  • Create campaign playbooks with go/no-go criteria, rollback procedures, and post-campaign validation steps.
  • Serve as the senior technical escalation point for complex or recurring product failures surfaced through JIRA and ensure documented, reproducible resolutions.
  • Establish and track field engineering KPIs, including mean time to repair, first-time fix rate, escalation recurrence rate, and campaign closure rate; use them to drive improvement and report progress to Service Delivery leadership.
  • Own and maintain the team's Confluence space as a current, organized, actively used knowledge platform.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with autonomous mobile robot or industrial automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with Robot Operating System (ROS).

About the company

Slip Robotics provides the SlipBot automated loading system as a Robots-as-a-Service for loading docks. The SlipBot can load or unload a full truck trailer in about five minutes by staging freight at the dock and moving it as a single unit, with no facility changes or IT setup required. The system includes SlipController for control, SlipView for live/historical data, and attachments like SlipBot+Rack and SlipBot+Bin to handle non-uniform items, all delivered via annual subscription that covers hardware, software, and data access. The company aims to reduce dock loading time and truck dwell, increase throughput, improve safety by removing forklift entry into trailers, and scale deployments across the logistics ecosystem with data-driven insights for customers.

What believers are saying

  • SlipLift reached initial deployments in 2026 and broader availability throughout the year.
  • Slip hired a dozen employees since summer 2026, including field and engineering roles.
  • Customers like John Deere, GE Appliances, Nissan, Valeo, and Four Hands validate demand.

What critics are saying

  • Berkshire Grey's Scoop launched February 2026, challenging Slip in dock unloading.
  • Symbotic acquired Fox Robotics in 2026, intensifying dock-automation competition with distribution scale.
  • Slip depends on warehouse adoption cycles; a failed SlipLift ramp would crush RaaS economics.

What makes Slip Robotics unique

  • SlipLift decouples robot from payload, serving multiple dock doors since February 2026.
  • Slip Robotics loads and unloads trucks in five minutes without facility or IT changes.
  • SlipBot and SlipLift target both short-haul and 20,000-pound regional freight operations.

Slip Robotics launches SlipLift to automate loading of 20,000-pound freight across more routes

Atlanta-based Slip Robotics has launched SlipLift, a new platform extending autonomous trailer loading and unloading beyond short-haul routes to heavier freight, regional distribution and last-mile delivery. The system supports payloads up to 20,000 pounds and requires no facility, trailer or IT infrastructure modifications. SlipLift decouples robots from payloads, allowing fewer robots to service more docks whilst maintaining the speed and safety of Slip's existing SlipBot platform. The system uses customisable SlipCarriers that stack when empty to save space. Operators control the process via handheld devices whilst remaining outside trailers. The platform enables pre-staging of freight for last-mile operations and faster morning load-outs. Initial deployments are underway, with broader availability planned throughout the year. Slip Robotics' existing clients include John Deere, GE Appliances and Nissan.
