- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- At least 2 years of experience in lifeguarding and/or swim instruction with demonstrated leadership abilities are required.
- A current lifeguard and swim instructor certification from a recognized organization, such as the Red Cross or YMCA, is required.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are required.
- Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification is required.
- The ability to obtain YSLI-T and/or LGI Certification within the first 90 days or at the first training offered is required.
- Applicants must be able to communicate and interact effectively with staff and participants of all ages.
- Knowledge of aquatic safety practices and procedures, including rescue techniques and emergency response protocols, is required.
- Applicants must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by program schedules.
- Applicants must be able to support the YMCA mission and values, including youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Provide leadership and feedback to lifeguards and swim instructors while modeling professionalism, safety, and customer service.
- Assist with training and development for lifeguards and swim instructors, including teaching lifeguard and swim lesson classes and assisting with in-service training.
- Serve as the primary point of contact on the pool deck, oversee operations, address concerns, enforce safety protocols, and monitor pool activities for compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Remain ready to teach lessons or perform lifeguarding duties during any assigned shift.
- Respond to aquatic emergencies, coordinate with emergency services when necessary, and conduct drills and training exercises.
- Interact with members and guests regarding aquatic programs and facilities and address their questions or concerns.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including emergency scheduling support, staff feedback and quick checks, and feedback for program planning.
- Collaborate with management to develop strategies that improve quality and efficiency.
- Identify and mitigate safety hazards in the aquatic environment to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Maintain accurate incident reports and documentation as required by YMCA policies.
- Adhere to abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and comply with mandated reporting requirements.
- Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization's abuse risk management standards.
- Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation, is preferred.
- The ability to speak any language in addition to English is helpful.
