MGM Strip profit falls 12% as macau hits record.

MGM Strip profit falls 12% as macau hits record. Casino News October 29, 2026 MGM Resorts Q3 results show Las Vegas Strip profit down 12% while MGM China set a revenue record. MGM Resorts International reported third quarter 2026 results on October 28, 2026. Consolidated revenue fell 1% to $4.21 billion, according to the MGM Resorts earnings release. The net loss attributable to MGM Resorts narrowed to $17.1 million from $285.3 million a year earlier. Consolidated adjusted EBITDA dropped to $403 million from $506 million. Diluted loss per share came in at $0.07, compared with $1.05 a year ago. Who is paying for the Vegas slowdown? The Las Vegas Strip dragged the quarter down. MGM Resorts said Strip revenue dropped 2% to $1.95 billion. Strip segment adjusted EBITDAR fell 12% to $531 million from $601 million. Regional operations revenue slid 8% to $883 million, and regional EBITDAR fell 18% to $243 million. On a same-store basis, MGM Resorts said regional revenue rose 1%. Bill Hornbuckle, President and CEO at MGM Resorts International, pointed to a softer leisure customer on the earnings call. "The macro headwinds we faced during the third quarter affected our leisure and transient customers across the board," Hornbuckle said. Hornbuckle also noted, "we saw airline pricing to Las Vegas up about 45% in 3Q versus last summer." Jonathan Halkyard, Chief Financial Officer at MGM Resorts, said September room rates were down high single digits. Macau and digital carried the rest. MGM China revenue grew 5% to $1.14 billion, a quarterly record. "At MGM China, we achieved record quarterly revenues," Hornbuckle said on the call. MGM China also posted a record quarterly market share of 17.1%. MGM China segment adjusted EBITDAR still dipped 7% to $264 million. MGM Digital revenue rose 6% to $184 million, and its EBITDAR loss narrowed to $4 million from $23 million. BetMGM sent $34 million in distributions and branding license fees to MGM Resorts. Hornbuckle said BetMGM third quarter net revenue rose 7% while adjusted EBITDA increased 112%. Halkyard said iGaming "drives nearly 70% of our net revenue from operations and remains our primary growth engine." Hornbuckle added, "We continue to prioritize resources towards our iGaming business." The quarter also closed a takeover saga. Hornbuckle said People Inc. could not assemble a syndicate that met its objective and withdrew its offer. SBC Americas also covered the comments. Asked if talks were finished, Hornbuckle answered, "We are done, and I meant that." Hornbuckle said People Inc. cannot buy more MGM Resorts shares once its ownership reaches 29.9%. MGM Resorts framed the dip as short term. Hornbuckle said trailing twelve month Strip EBITDAR "has grown by nearly 70% since calendar year 2019." Hornbuckle also cited "an enviable growth pipeline with MGM Osaka to drive future value." What comes next depends on Las Vegas demand. Hornbuckle said in the release that "October has rebounded favorably" after lower third quarter room rates. MGM Resorts cut its share count to 251,601,576 at September 30, 2026, from 258,323,143 at December 31, 2025. Halkyard said an amended voting agreement "enables MGM Resorts to confidently pursue value-creating share repurchases." Investors will now watch whether the October rebound holds through the fourth quarter. MGM Q3 posts mixed bag of results.

MGM Q3 posts mixed bag of results. MGM Resorts International reported a substantially reduced net loss for the third quarter, as the absence of prior-year impairment charges combined with continued momentum at MGM China and the BetMGM joint venture to offset softer conditions on the Las Vegas Strip. The company recorded a net loss attributable to MGM Resorts of $17.1 million, or $0.07 per share, for the quarter ended September 30, a significant improvement from the $285.3 million loss, or $1.05 per share, reported in the same period a year earlier. The prior-year quarter was weighed down primarily by charges connected to the company's withdrawal of its bid for a casino licence in the New York City area. Consolidated revenue came in at $4.21 billion, a decrease of approximately 1% compared with the prior-year quarter. Operating income reached $118.7 million. On a non-GAAP basis, the company reported a loss of $0.11 per share, which fell short of analyst consensus estimates. Segment performance. Performance across MGM's operating segments was mixed: * Las Vegas Strip Resorts: Revenue declined 2% to $2.0 billion, with room revenue down 6%. The segment continues to reflect softer demand in the lower-end leisure customer category. * Regional Operations: Revenue fell 8% to $883 million, although the figure improved by 1% when excluding specific one-time items. * MGM China: The Macau operation delivered revenue of approximately HK$3.5 billion, up from HK$3.4 billion in the prior-year period, with adjusted EBITDA of approximately HK$865 million. The market remains a consistent contributor to group profitability. * Digital: BetMGM, the joint venture with Entain, reported net revenue of $710 million for the quarter, an increase of 7% year-on-year, alongside adjusted EBITDA of $86 million. Year-to-date adjusted EBITDA stood at $185 million, reflecting the venture's transition into sustained profitability. The results present two distinct narratives within the business. On one hand, the domestic property portfolio is showing signs of strain, with declining room revenue on the Strip and regional weakness indicating softer consumer demand. On the other, the company's international and digital operations continue to expand, providing a growing counterweight to domestic headwinds.
