Apple is cutting 147 jobs in the Bay Area, according to state filings. The layoffs were announced last Thursday and will take effect in October. The cuts include 79 positions at Apple's Cupertino headquarters and 68 at two Sunnyvale locations. All redundancies are permanent. Reports indicate the layoffs affect teams working on Siri, Apple Vision Immersive Video, and Apple Vision gaming. Apple's cost narrative has shifted from tariffs to memory chip pricing, according to recent financial results. The company's June quarter gross margin of 50.1% included roughly two percentage points from tariff refunds, a reversal from previous cost pressures. Memory costs now dominate margin concerns.
