Kentucky VALOR, Sazerac launch military workforce initiative for tourism and hospitality careers. September 2, 2026 New Industry Connections program aims to connect veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses with career opportunities across Kentucky's growing tourism economy. LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky VALOR has partnered with Sazerac Co. to launch a new workforce initiative designed to connect veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses with career opportunities in Kentucky's tourism and hospitality industry. The new Industry Connections initiative will help military-connected workers understand how skills developed during military service can translate into civilian careers in some of Kentucky's key industries. Kentucky VALOR, an initiative of Kentucky Science & Technology Corp. (KSTC), currently serves approximately 2,500 military-connected participants across the United States and overseas, providing personalized career assistance and job matching with Kentucky employers. The first Industry Connections resource, supported by Sazerac, will focus on Kentucky's tourism and hospitality sector. According to the Kentucky Department of Tourism's 2025 Economic Impact of Tourism report, tourism supported nearly 97,000 jobs and generated $14.6 billion in economic impact across the commonwealth in 2025. The new program will introduce participants to career opportunities in hotel and lodging management, restaurants and food service, bourbon and experiential tourism, destination marketing, visitor attractions, event operations and other hospitality-related fields. Those industries can be a particularly strong fit for veterans because many military occupations develop experience in leadership, logistics, operations, planning, customer service and team management. "The service members and military spouses we work with bring leadership, adaptability and problem-solving skills that translate across industries," said Molly Bode, executive director of Kentucky VALOR. "Through this partnership with Sazerac, we're helping participants explore opportunities across Kentucky's tourism and visitor economy, connect with industry leaders and discover careers that align with their interests, skills and long-term goals." The program also addresses a broader Kentucky workforce-development challenge: connecting employers with skilled workers while encouraging military families leaving active service to consider Kentucky as a place to establish their civilian careers. Kentucky VALOR works with participants to identify employment opportunities as well as Kentucky communities where veterans and their families may want to live and work.
