Apple reportedly lifts iPhone Duo target 44% to 14M units as November 2 earnings loom

Apple has reportedly raised its 12-month shipment target for the iPhone Duo, its $1,999 foldable, by about 44%, from 9.7 million to 14 million units. DigiTimes reported the change on October 22, citing supply chain sources. Apple has not confirmed it. The Duo reaches stores on October 23, with limited walk-in stock. JPMorgan analysts expect 8 million to 9 million Duos in calendar 2026. Apple reports fiscal fourth-quarter results on November 2, before the Duo's sales count. Street estimates put December-quarter revenue near $153 billion, about 7% growth. Shares closed at $343.99 on October 21, above Wall Street's average target of around $328. Loop Capital cut the stock to Hold from Buy.

Apple's $1,999 foldable iPhone Duo wins strong early reviews as preorders sell out into 2027

Apple's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is drawing strong early reviews, with several technology publications ranking it among the best foldable smartphones yet. Reviewers praised its engineering, durable build and barely visible display crease. The device opens from a 5.4-inch outer display into a 7.6-inch inner screen, which Apple says is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max screen. It starts at $1,999. Reviews were not all glowing. The Verge cited first-generation compromises, including uneven third-party app optimisation. The Duo also lacks Face ID and a dedicated telephoto camera. Demand looks strong. Preorder delivery estimates have slipped into late 2026 and early 2027.

Apple tops $5T market cap as Greg Abel keeps 22% of Berkshire's portfolio in the stock

It is also Berkshire Hathaway's top holding, at about 22% of the conglomerate's public equity portfolio. Greg Abel became Berkshire's chief executive officer at the start of the year, after Warren Buffett stepped down. Abel has said he will keep the company culture and its major stock holdings. Apple's fiscal third-quarter revenue, for the period ended June 27, rose 16% year over year to $109.4 billion. Earnings per share rose 29% to $2.02. iPhone sales grew 21.6% to $54.3 billion, driven by the iPhone 17 and its AI features. Apple's installed base has passed 2.5 billion active devices, and it is launching its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo.

I worked a full day on the $1,999 iPhone Duo: here's how it went

WIRED's reviewer wrote an entire iPhone Duo review on Apple's first folding smartphone, which costs $1,999. That is close to the combined price of an iPhone 18 Pro ($1,199) and an iPad ($449), so the test was whether the 7.6-inch screen can replace both. The writer used the note-taking app Bear, which is optimised for the larger screen. Most apps are not, and it could take weeks or months for them to look right. iOS does not recognise a Bluetooth mouse or trackpad by default. Users must enable AssistiveTouch in accessibility settings to get an iPad-like cursor. Small tasks, such as pasting links or searching, were slower. Split-screen allows only a 50-50 split, and portrait mode pins only video apps to the top. App pairs, which save two apps together in Recents, worked well.
