Asda launches Free Halloween pumpkin patch experience as families face £209 spooky season costs!

Asda launches Free Halloween pumpkin patch experience as families face £209 spooky season costs! Asda is helping families celebrate Halloween for less with a free pumpkin-picking experience, spooky crafts and family activities at its Crawley superstore on 23 and 24 October 2026. Halloween is becoming an increasingly expensive celebration for British families, with new research commissioned by Asda revealing that Brits spend an average of £209 on Halloween festivities, including costumes, decorations, food, treats and seasonal days out. With more than half (56%) of Brits admitting that Halloween puts additional pressure on household finances, Asda is offering families an affordable way to embrace spooky season without paying expensive attraction admission fees. The supermarket has announced Asda Creepy Crawley, a free Halloween experience taking place at its West Green superstore in Crawley, West Sussex, on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October 2026. The event promises pumpkin picking, creative Halloween crafts, spooky activities and family photo opportunities, all taking place at a supermarket that Asda says was built on the site of a former graveyard. Asda Creepy Crawley brings A free pumpkin patch to families! For families looking to enjoy traditional Halloween activities without spending a fortune, Asda Creepy Crawley brings the atmosphere of a pumpkin patch directly to the supermarket car park. Visitors will be able to browse and purchase pumpkins at Asda prices, take part in Halloween-themed crafts and enjoy spooky entertainment designed especially for younger children. The free event also offers families the chance to capture their perfect autumn photographs without purchasing tickets to a dedicated pumpkin patch or Halloween attraction. As an additional treat, customers purchasing a large pumpkin at the Crawley pumpkin patch will receive a free pumpkin carving kit, while stocks last, on a first come, first served basis. Although entry and activities are free, pumpkins must be purchased separately. The event forms part of Asda's wider Halloween offering, with the supermarket stocking approximately 1.25 million pumpkins this season. Halloween Spending reaches £209 as families feel the financial pressure! As Halloween celebrations become increasingly elaborate, the cost of taking part is rising. Research commissioned by Asda suggests that what was once a single evening of trick-or-treating has evolved into a much bigger seasonal occasion. According to the findings, 80% of Brits now consider the entire month of October to be spooky season, while 42% believe Halloween celebrations have expanded into a week-long event. For many households, this means additional spending on decorations, themed food, costumes, pumpkins and family experiences. Average Reported Halloween Spending £209. Total Halloween spending £20. Pumpkin patch trips and days out Decorations £18. Halloween food and drink £15. 56%. Feeling financial pressure Figures from research commissioned by Asda. Individual spending categories are not an exhaustive breakdown of the £209 total. The research also found that 32% of Brits believe Halloween celebrations are getting out of control, highlighting concerns about the growing financial expectations surrounding the occasion. Pumpkin picking becomes A popular Halloween family tradition! Pumpkin picking has become one of the most popular seasonal activities for British families. Asda's research reveals that 46% of Brits have taken their children pumpkin picking, with the tradition particularly popular among adults aged 30 to 44. Within that age group, 66% have visited a pumpkin patch, while 29% of Brits say they make pumpkin picking an annual tradition. However, the experience can come with additional costs. The research found that a quarter (25%) of respondents have paid more for a pumpkin at a dedicated patch than they would have for a similarly sized pumpkin at a supermarket. Beyond admission fees, visitors also face spending on refreshments and parking. Among those surveyed, 42% typically purchase food during Halloween days out, 39% buy hot drinks and 21% pay for parking. Almost one in five (18%) say that tickets alone for a family pumpkin patch trip or Halloween attraction can cost £40 or more. By bringing pumpkin picking to its Crawley superstore, Asda hopes to make the tradition more accessible while allowing families to combine their Halloween outing with their weekly food shop. The pressure to create picture-perfect Halloween experiences is another growing trend identified in Asda's research. More than half (51%) of pumpkin patch visitors say they take a family photograph every time they attend, while 33% admit feeling pressure to capture the perfect pumpkin patch image for social media. According to the research, 40% of Brits have purchased additional decorations specifically because they would look good in photographs. Meanwhile, almost a third (31%) admit to trying to outdo neighbours, friends or other families with their Halloween displays. These findings suggest that Halloween is increasingly becoming a visually driven celebration, with elaborate decorations, seasonal outings and social media content contributing to the growing expense. Asda's free Halloween event aims to offer families the opportunity to enjoy these experiences without the added pressure of costly attraction tickets. Asda wants families to enjoy Halloween without breaking the bank! Speaking about the launch, an Asda spokesperson explained that the supermarket wanted to make Halloween traditions more affordable. "Halloween has become a season rather than a night, and the costumes, decorations, treats and days out all add up. The pumpkin patch photo is now just as essential as the carving, but at Creepy Crawley we want to take the pressure, and the price, out of it." The spokesperson added that families could enjoy pumpkin picking, capture seasonal photographs and complete their Halloween shopping during the same visit. The initiative reflects the growing demand for affordable family activities, particularly during the October half-term period when households may already be managing additional entertainment costs. When and where is Asda Creepy Crawley taking place? Asda Creepy Crawley - Free Halloween Experience Asda Crawley Superstore, Pegler Way, Crawley, RH11 7AH Friday 23 October 2026 Saturday 24 October 2026 Admission: Free Pumpkins are sold separately. Free carving kits are available with qualifying large pumpkin purchases, subject to availability. Celebrate Halloween for less with Asda! With Halloween becoming an increasingly important occasion for families across the UK, affordable seasonal experiences are likely to be particularly welcome this October. Asda Creepy Crawley offers a combination of traditional pumpkin picking, Halloween creativity and family entertainment without the usual admission costs associated with dedicated attractions. Whether families are hoping to find the perfect pumpkin, take memorable photographs or simply enjoy an afternoon of spooky activities, the two-day event provides an opportunity to celebrate Halloween on a budget.

Asda launches new range of no and low-alcohol wine.

Asda launches new range of no and low-alcohol wine. 19th October 2026 Asda has expanded its own-label wine portfolio with the launch of Balancing Act, a new range of alcohol-free and low-alcohol wines aimed at consumers looking to moderate their drinking. The supermarket has introduced three wines across two price points, £6 and £10, as it looks to capitalise on growing consumer interest in lower-alcohol alternatives ahead of the festive season. Developed in partnership with one of Asda's French wine suppliers in the Loire Valley, the range has been created to retain the characteristics of traditional wines while substantially reducing their alcohol content. The collection includes a Balancing Act Sauvignon Blanc at 0.0% ABV, priced at £6, alongside a premium Sauvignon Blanc at 0.5% ABV and a Pinot Noir at 0.5% ABV, both retailing at £10. The alcohol-free Sauvignon Blanc features citrus and white fruit flavours, while the premium version offers notes of pear and cherry blossom, with subtle oak influences. The Pinot Noir has been developed with red fruit flavours and hints of spice and oak. The launch forms part of Asda's efforts to strengthen its position in the expanding no and low-alcohol drinks category, with the retailer targeting shoppers seeking alternatives to conventional alcoholic drinks for social occasions. Tom Bourne, Wine Sourcing Manager at Asda, said: "The no and low category continues to evolve rapidly, but finding wines that truly deliver on quality and varietal character remains a challenge. With Balancing Act, we've worked closely with our winemaking partner in the Loire Valley to create wines that offer a genuine step up in quality." He added: "The range is all about balance. It's about balancing the craft of winemaking with alcohol reduction, while also recognising that many customers want to enjoy great wine as part of a more balanced lifestyle. Whether they're cutting back completely or simply moderating during many social events in the run-up to the festive period, we wanted to offer wines that don't feel like a compromise."
