What believers are saying

  • CoBank donated $250,000 on March 9, 2026, extending support for fifteen consecutive years.
  • NRECA International won 2026 momentum from Burundi, Philippines, and Virunga Power expansion work.
  • Its 2026 PowerXchange delegation traffic shows continuing demand from co-ops in Africa and Latin America.

What critics are saying

  • USAID’s 2025 shutdown and FY26 foreign-aid cuts shattered NRECA International’s funding pipeline.
  • Without U.S. government contracts, Zambia, Burundi, and Senegal projects lose their primary sponsor.
  • If Congress never restores aid, NRECA International becomes a donor-dependent nonprofit with shrinking global reach.

What makes NRECA International unique

  • Since 1962, NRECA International built 250 utilities and co-ops across 54 countries.
  • Its model mobilizes U.S. cooperative volunteers, cutting project costs and transferring operating know-how.
  • It blends electrification, utility design, broadband, and cooperative governance, not just grant-funded power lines.
