First Financial Bancorp Q3: $274.9M revenue beats estimates on record fee income

First Financial Bancorp reported third-quarter revenue of $274.9 million, up 17.3% year on year and 1.5% above analyst estimates of $271 million. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.84, against estimates of $0.83. Record fee income and a resilient net interest margin drove the results. Chief executive officer Archie Brown pointed to strong growth in commercial and industrial lending across major metro markets, as well as gains in foreign exchange, wealth management, and bank card services. Operating expenses rose on incentive, healthcare, and credit collection costs. Management expects them to ease next quarter. Analysts also asked about the pending Finward acquisition, which chief financial officer Jamie Anderson said brings slightly more upfront dilution and a modestly longer earn-back period. The shares trade at $32.70, and market capitalisation is $3.43 billion.

First Financial shares slip 1.2% to $76.83 despite Q3 EPS jump to $2.31 and 4.51% margin

First Financial's shares fell 1.2% to $76.83 on the first full trading day after it reported third-quarter 2026 results, despite stronger earnings. Revenue rose to $75.71 million from $69.30 million a year earlier. Net income climbed to $27.44 million from $20.76 million, and basic earnings per share reached $2.31, up from $1.75. The regional lender's net interest margin widened to 4.51% from 4.25%. The stock has fallen roughly 5% over 90 days, though its seven-day and 30-day returns are modestly positive. That suggests lingering investor worry about regional banks and their sensitivity to rates and credit conditions.

OFG Bancorp led regional banks in Q2 earnings, reporting revenues of $190.3 million, up 4.4% year on year and beating analyst expectations by 3.9%. The Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands-focused bank exceeded estimates for both earnings per share and net interest income. First Financial Bancorp posted weaker results, with revenues of $262.7 million missing analyst forecasts by 2.9% despite growing 15.8% year on year. The stock fell 8.8% following the announcement.
