Product Marketer
ONI
Desktop super-resolution microscope for single molecules
Salary Range: 105000 to 120000 (Currency: USD) (Pay period: per-year-salary)
At ONI, we are driven by a profound mission: to propel scientific discovery and combat diseases by granting everyone the ability to visualize, comprehend, and share the intricate microscopic details of life. Our revolutionary Nanoimager and Aplo Platform stand at the forefront of advancing cellular studies on a molecular level, making substantial contributions to the evolution of scientific knowledge.
We’re looking for a product marketer to join our product team and carry that story to new market segments and use cases. You’ll work closely with customers in the biodiscovery portfolio to understand where integrated imaging, fluidics and analysis can meet their pain points and define what we build for them next.
As a part of the Product team, you’ll own positioning, messaging and go-to-market for our biodiscovery portfolio as well as the product the roadmap that serves it. This is a science-forward, individual-contributor role spanning product marketing and product management. Your audience is expert: PIs, KOLs, core facility directors and discovery scientists in biopharma. You’ll translate hard imaging science into a narrative that resonates with them, differentiates ONI’s Aplo platform from confocal, EM and other super-resolution platforms. You’ll drive pipeline and turn your understanding of the market into requirements for future products and capabilities. As a product marketer, you’ll work closely with the commercial, R&D and field applications teams, acting as the connective tissue between what the platform can do, what the market understands it can do, and what it needs to do next.
Own positioning and messaging for biodiscovery applications, including receptor clustering and oligomerization, protein–protein colocalization, molecular counting and stoichiometry, cytoskeletal and synaptic architecture, and membrane nanodomains, grounded in real biological questions.
Build application notes, webinars, conference presence and case studies, and amplify customer publications that demonstrate the platform in the wild.
Own competitive intelligence and positioning against adjacent modalities (confocal, EM, other super-resolution), articulating where our resolution, workflow and biological richness win, and being honest internally about where they don’t.
Drive sales enablement, including messaging frameworks, battle cards, demo narratives and training that let the commercial team hold a credible scientific conversation with a skeptical PI.
Partner with the customer-facing teams to capture voice-of-customer from users and KOLs, understand their science and unmet needs, and translate that into product requirements for future biodiscovery capabilities, applications and workflows.
Think outside the box for new solutions to identified problems in the biodiscovery space that ONI’s existing platform does not directly address, and work with the rest of the product team to formulate how these new solutions could fit into ONI’s product portfolio.
Contribute to roadmap and requirements definition alongside R&D, writing up market needs, use cases and application requirements for this segment.
Partner on launch planning for new capabilities and applications, from narrative through to enablement and measurement.
Represent the discovery market internally as an evidence-based advocate for what this segment needs and how it differs from ONI’s existing kits and integrated workflows.
A life-science background, ideally imaging, cell biology or biophysics, with enough depth to earn credibility with expert researchers. An MSc/PhD or equivalent hands-on research experience is a real plus.
Experience in product marketing, scientific marketing, product management or field applications in life-science tools or instrumentation, or a demonstrated ability to make that leap from the bench.
The ability to turn dense, technical capability into a clear story for a technical audience without dumbing it down, and to turn messy customer reality into clear product requirements.
The ability to work across teams in a fast-moving environment and to prioritize when everything feels urgent.
Clear writing. Claims and product decisions backed by data and customer evidence, not adjectives
Direct experience with microscopy, specifically super-resolution or single-molecule techniques (dSTORM, PALM, DNA-PAINT).
A network in the academic or biopharma imaging community.
Experience amplifying customer publications or running a KOL program.
Owned a roadmap or defined product requirements for a life-science tool or instrument.
This is a role based in our San Diego office, with travel to customer sites, conferences, and KOL visits as needed (~20%).
ONI makes and sells high-end microscopes for life sciences, including the Nanoimager desktop super-resolution microscope and the Aplo Scope. Its products let researchers visualize and track single molecules in living cells using direct STORM (dSTORM) imaging at about 20 nanometer resolution. The Nanoimager is designed to be compact and easy to use, while the Aplo Scope combines high-power single-molecule localization with low-power live-cell imaging for broader experiments. Compared with competitors, ONI emphasizes a ready-to-use desktop instrument with straightforward operation, bundled consumables and services, and a focus on single-molecule imaging in biology, virology, and immunology. The company aims to make high-resolution, molecule-level imaging accessible to a wide range of academic and industrial researchers, enabling detailed study of cellular processes and interactions.
