172 jobs lost as Gerresheimer closes Chicago Heights plant, moves production to Italy, India.

172 jobs lost as Gerresheimer closes Chicago Heights plant, moves production to Italy, India. Published October 6, 2026 5:51 PM CDT Gerresheimer has shut down its Chicago Heights facility after years of production, laying off 172 workers as the company cites declining sales and shifts pharmaceutical glass manufacturing to operations in Italy and India. The brief. * * A pharmaceutical glass manufacturing plant in Chicago Heights has officially closed, putting 172 people out of work. * Gerresheimer says declining sales at the facility made continued production there economically unfeasible, with the company transferring the work to facilities in Italy and India. * Some former employees told FOX Chicago said he is still waiting for his severance check. CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. - A packaging company closed operations last Wednesday and laid off 172 workers in the process. What we know: After years of manufacturing pharmaceutical glass packaging in the south suburbs, Gerresheimer's Chicago Heights facility is now closed. The company says the plant stopped operating at the end of September, with the final day of operations Wednesday, Sept. 30. The company sent Fox Chicago a statement saying, ""The Gerresheimer Management Board had decided to close the facility in Chicago Heights, Illinois, USA, at the end of September 2026. This decision was taken on the backdrop of declining sales at this facility. Continuing production at this location was not economically feasible. At the Moulded Glass facility, Gerresheimer manufactured type I glass (flint borosilicate glass) moulded bottles for pharmaceutical applications. Gerresheimer worked closely with customers to transfer products from the Chicago Heights facility to its one of the three Type I flint borosilicate glass operations in Italy and/or India in accordance with established requirements. The union had been informed of the decision in February 2026. Gerresheimer previously employed around 200 people at the facility. Please understand that we won't comment beyond that." FOX Chicago reached out to several impacted employees following the shutdown. They did not want to go on camera, but one former worker told us he is still waiting for his severance check. However, Billy Rogers, who identified himself as a former employee of 35 years told us outside the facility he was laid off in 2024 due to declining work. Rogers told us he's been trying to get his retirement papers in order, but no one from the company has been willing to help him. "I've been loyal to this company from day one since I've been here," said Rogers. "I come to work all the time, I even got an award for being here." During our interview with Rogers, security guards approached Fox Chicago crews and asked us to leave. We informed them we were on a public right-of-way and had every right to be here. The security then said the company still didn't want us recording outside of the facility. Fox Chicago once again explained the right to a free press, and they left us alone. What they're saying: We also asked Rogers about how his former colleagues are taking the closure. He explained some have been with the company for decades. "This is terrible. A lot of them said this is terrible. You know because they could've warned the people that they was closing down," said Rogers. "They had to tell them you work until the end of the month, the end of September. All of that we're going to give you severance pay. Some of them can't get severance pay. They're going back 29 years. How are you going to get severance pay? Some ain't even been there this long. You don't do people like that." The closure comes as Gerresheimer works through a broader financial and operational restructuring. The German pharmaceutical packaging company reported revenue of about $540 million in the first quarter of 2026, based on the exchange rate at the time, while reporting an operating loss and a net loss for the quarter. Gerresheimer also reported more than $2 billion in net financial debt. The company has since reported an improvement in its second-quarter results. Gerresheimer reported preliminary second-quarter revenue of about $656 million, up from roughly $540 million in the first quarter. Adjusted EBITDA, a measure of operating profitability, also rose sharply from the first quarter. However, Gerresheimer said its second-quarter and first-half results remained below the same periods a year earlier. The company's Moulded Glass division - which includes the Chicago Heights operation - also reported lower first-half revenue and adjusted EBITDA compared with the previous year. Gerresheimer says its broader transformation program is designed to reduce costs and improve the company's performance. The company has also been selling portions of its business, including its U.S.-based Centor operation, as it works to improve its financial position. Gerresheimer said the Centor sale was successfully completed Oct. 1. What's next: For the 172 workers affected by the closure, the focus now shifts to severance payments and finding new employment after the Chicago Heights plant shut down. The production that once took place in the south suburbs is now being transferred to Gerresheimer operations in Italy and India. Fox Chicago also reached out to Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez as well as the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce. We're still waiting to hear back. The Source: The information in this report came from a statement from Gerresheimer, interviews with former employees including Billy Rogers, Gerresheimer's first- and second-quarter 2026 financial results, and responses sought from Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez and the Chicago Southland Chamber of Commerce.

Gerresheimer's business improves again, second half of year in focus.

Gerresheimer's business improves again, second half of year in focus. Published on 09/30/2026 at 05:30 am EDT dpa-AFX - Translated by Marketscreener - See original DUESSELDORF (dpa-AFX) - Business at packaging specialist Gerresheimer developed better in the second quarter than at the beginning of the fiscal year. According to preliminary calculations, the company generated revenue of €578m in the second fiscal quarter, which ended in May, €55m more than in the first three months, Gerresheimer said in Dusseldorf on Wednesday. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose by €35m from the previous quarter to €102m. However, revenue and operating profit declined compared with the year-earlier period. Business is expected to perform even better in the second half of the fiscal year. In addition, progress is being made on the agreed sales of the Centor and Primary Packaging Plastics divisions. The stock was recently up 3.5 percent. "Our gto transformation program is beginning to take effect," Chief Financial Officer Wolf Lehmann said. The sale of Centor is close to completion, while the divestment process for Primary Packaging Plastics is progressing swiftly and according to plan. Gerresheimer expects the second transaction to be completed in the first half of 2027. Gerresheimer plans to publish its final half-year report at the end of November. Gerresheimer is publishing its quarterly results late. The company postponed the release after investigations by Germany's Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, or BaFin, uncovered errors in its accounting. The Dusseldorf-based company subsequently had to restate its annual financial statements and tightened its accounting and control processes. There was also a change at the top of the company, along with the sale of business units. In April, the stock was removed from the SDax because the group failed to submit its 2024/25 annual report on time. The report has since been published, with Gerresheimer reporting a group loss of nearly €319m due to substantial impairments. The quarterly report for the first quarter has also already been released. Given the significant recovery in the share price, Gerresheimer is even being seen as having a chance of returning to the SDax soon./mne/mis/stk (C) dpa-AFX - 2026

Why is Gerresheimer stock rallying today?

Why is Gerresheimer stock rallying today? Published 08/27/2026, 04:07 AM (C) Reuters. Investing.com - Gerresheimer stock rallied 5.7% to reach €26.68 after the Düsseldorf-based pharmaceutical packaging specialist released preliminary fiscal first-quarter 2026 results, with the market focusing on a meaningful improvement in free cash flow and management's more optimistic tone regarding second-half performance. Revenue for the quarter came in at €524 million, edging up from €519 million in the comparable prior-year period on an adjusted basis, while adjusted EBITDA declined to €66 million from €81 million, with the margin narrowing to 12.6% from 15.7% - a trade-off the company framed as a deliberate strategic shift toward cash generation over near-term profitability. The results arrive against a backdrop of notable corporate turbulence. Just days earlier, on August 24, 2026, Gerresheimer confirmed an interim leadership change, with CEO Uwe Röhrhoff stepping down and Wolf Lehmann and Achim Schalk jointly assuming his responsibilities on a temporary basis. That transition, combined with an earlier reduction to the company's 2026 revenue guidance - pointing toward the lower half of the €2.3-€2.4 billion range - had kept the stock range-bound in the upper €20s for much of August. Today's cash flow signal appears to have provided the reassurance investors needed to re-engage with the shares. The broader market environment was supportive on the day, with U.S. equity indices posting gains and German mid-cap equities trading in positive territory, providing a constructive backdrop for a name like Gerresheimer, which is listed on the SDAX. The company operates in the specialized pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging space, competing with peers in European healthcare packaging, and its focus on injectable drug delivery systems and self-administration devices ties its fortunes closely to long-term pharmaceutical demand trends. +0.930 (+3.68%) Real-time Data · 08:30:06 · EUR Taken together, the combination of better-than-feared cash flow dynamics in the preliminary Q1 figures, a stabilizing macro environment, and the market's relief that the new interim management team appears to be maintaining strategic continuity drove today's sharp recovery. The shares remain well below their 52-week high of €45.24, suggesting that while sentiment has improved, investors will be watching subsequent quarterly updates closely for evidence that the margin and cash flow trajectory is genuinely improving. Gerresheimer selling two pharma packaging units in $1.7-Bn deals.

Gerresheimer selling two pharma packaging units in $1.7-Bn deals. Gerresheimer has agreed to sell two of its packaging units - Centor US Holding, which specializes in packaging systems for dispensing prescription drugs, and its global primary packaging plastics business - to an affiliate of funds advised by Apax Partners, a private equity firm, for EUR 1.5 billion ($1.7 billion). In 2025, the two businesses generated combined revenue of approximately EUR 570 million ($657 million) with a combined number of employees of approximately 2,400. The Centor facility is in Millersburg, Ohio, where the company manufactures packaging systems for prescription drug dispensing, including vials, plastic bottles, and closures. In addition to the Centor site in the US, the transaction includes a total of 15 production sites for primary plastic packaging in nine countries. "This transaction allows us to regain our strategic flexibility," explains Uwe Röhrhoff, CEO of Gerresheimer AG, in a July 29, 2026, statement in announcing the sale. "At the same time, as a leading global partner to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, we are focusing our business even more strongly on high-value drug delivery and medical devices and primary packaging for injectable drugs." The purchase price for the two business units combined is based on an enterprise value of approximately EUR 1.5 billion ($1.7 billion). The parties have agreed not to disclose further terms of the agreements. The transactions are subject to customary closing conditions and approvals and will be closed independently of one another. The sale of Centor is expected to close by the end of financial year 2026, and the sale of the global primary packaging plastics business is expected to close in the first half of financial year 2027.
