About the company

Bass Pro Shops designs and runs destination outdoor retailers that sell fishing tackle, hunting gear, camping equipment, boats, and related outdoor goods. Its products and services include a wide catalog and in-store experiences, including full-scale “Outdoor World” retail locations and the Tracker Boat line (boats with motors and trailers) sold as complete packages. The company grew from a small tackle shop into a nationwide retailer through catalogs and immersive stores, and expanded its footprint by acquiring rival Cabela’s, nearly doubling its physical presence. Unlike some mass retailers, Bass Pro Shops emphasizes an experiential shopping environment and outdoor lifestyle branding tied to hands-on gear and boating. Its goal is to be the leading destination for outdoor enthusiasts in North America, making outdoor recreation accessible and enjoyable while growing its retail network and brand presence.

Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World plans a columbia-area location. What we know. October 15, 2026 3:12 PM Gift Article A new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store is coming to the Columbia area. Bass Pro Shops announced in a Thursday release that it will bring a new 110,000-square-foot store to Broad River Road in Irmo. The store will open in late 2027, according to the release. The release from Bass Pro Shops didn't specify an exact address, but Richland County property tax records show Bass Pro Outdoor World LLC has purchased several pieces of property totaling about 20 acres just off Broad River Road near the interchange with Interstate 26. "It is a true honor for us to serve the sportsmen and women who call this beautiful region home," Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris said in the release. "With Lake Murray offering some of the finest bass fishing in the country and generations of families enjoying the outdoors together, we're proud to become part of that tradition." This will mark the fourth Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World store in South Carolina, following spots in Greenville, Fort Mill and Myrtle Beach. It will be the first Columbia location. Thursday's release noted that every Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World location "is designed as a tribute to the region it serves." The release said Morris "often is referred to as 'The Walt Disney of the Outdoors' for his knack of creating experiences that connect people with nature." The Columbia area location will employ 120 people, and those interested in employment can visit basspro.com/careers.
