About the job

Requirements
  • Experience onboarding customers at a company without an established playbook and building the process.

  • Ability to communicate credibly with appliance repair shop owners and software engineers.
  • Ability to serve as the single point of accountability for customer success.
  • Comfort working at startup speed.
Responsibilities
  • Own the entire post-sale customer relationship, including onboarding, activation, support, expansion, and retention.
  • Manage customer onboarding from signed contract through full deployment and activation.
  • Monitor account health through proactive check-ins, usage monitoring, and escalation handling, identifying thriving and at-risk accounts.
  • Create and document onboarding, training, and support playbooks and processes so they are repeatable.
  • Surface product gaps, feature requests, and customer friction to the engineering and product teams.
  • Identify expansion opportunities, catch churn signals early, and meet net revenue retention targets.
  • Work with the CEO, CTO, and engineering team to resolve issues and ship improvements.
  • Configure the product to fit customer workflows, support customers through the transition, and demonstrate return on investment with measurable results.
  • Handle customer issues as the first point of contact and ensure customers understand successful outcomes.
  • Spend a significant portion of the role on the phone with customers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience at a startup or early-stage company in a customer-facing, multi-hat role.
  • Familiarity with trades, field service, home services, or blue-collar industries.
  • Experience with HubSpot, support platforms, or automation tools.
  • Experience working with or selling to small business owners.

About the company

Bernard provides an AI-powered operating system for appliance repair and other home/commercial services. It automates the whole service workflow—from customer intake and triage to scheduling, dispatch, and parts procurement—via an integration with phone, text, and email channels. A core feature, Pre-ID, analyzes the specific appliance and reported symptoms against repair histories, similar jobs, manufacturer guidelines, and parts data to generate a probable diagnosis, a ranked list of needed parts, and technician questions, helping technicians arrive with the right info and parts for a first-time fix. Bernard differentiates itself by offering an end-to-end, AI-driven workflow platform rather than a single tool, aiming to cut administrative overhead, reduce return visits, and improve margins and customer experience for appliance repair providers. Its goal is to establish a reliable, scalable operating system that can automate service operations for home and commercial appliance repairs.

What believers are saying

  • LandEarly shows five open roles, including sales and product engineering.
  • FundraisingFox lists Vela Partners, Y Combinator, and Accel among Bernard’s investors.

What critics are saying

  • QuoteIQ, ServiceTitan, Workiz, and Successware21 already dominate appliance repair workflows.
  • Bernard lacks published pricing and customer proof, weakening conversion versus transparent rivals.
  • If Pre-ID misses parts, first-time-fix gains collapse and shops churn within months.

What makes Bernard unique

  • Bernard’s Pre-ID combines repair history, symptoms, manufacturer guidance, and parts data.
  • It spans phone, text, email, warranty feeds, scheduling, dispatch, and follow-up.
  • YC S26 and a nine-person New York team signal focused category specialization.
