Dnyaan Prasad Global University, Pune opens QNX Everywhere Lab with Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology and BlackBerry.

Dnyaan Prasad Global University, Pune opens QNX Everywhere Lab with Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology and BlackBerry. Pune, Aug 31: Dnyaan Prasad Global University, by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, School of Technology and Research, along with Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology Pune, inaugurated the QNX Everywhere Lab by Blackberry. The lab was set up in collaboration with QNX Canada and Pi Square Technologies, and marked another step in the two institutions' effort to bring industry practice closer to the classroom. The lab came out of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the partners. Its main purpose was to give students and faculty real, hands-on experience with QNX Neutrino RTOS, embedded systems, and real-time application development - skills that were in growing demand across automotive and industrial technology companies. Over 240 students from Dnyaan Prasad Global University, by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, School of Technology and Research and Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology Pune were already part of the programme, working on industry-sponsored projects with access to multi-user QNX licenses. Faculty training had been an equally important part of the initiative. A Faculty Development Programme was held, in which more than 50 faculty members from different institutions were trained to teach QNX-based coursework, strengthening the teaching capacity around this technology. Building on this, QNX Everywhere Industry Projects began, giving students a chance to work on live industry problems rather than only classroom exercises. Once their projects were reviewed and verified by the Pi Square Technologies team, students became eligible for QNX Certification, a credential recognised across the industry. The QNX Everywhere Lab now functions as a permanent space for practical learning, project work, and innovation on campus, helping students build stronger, job-ready skills in embedded systems, real-time operating systems, and automotive software. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Somnath P. Patil, Pro Chancellor, Dnyaan Prasad Global University (DPGU), by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, said, "The QNX Everywhere Lab is a genuine step towards closing the gap between what students learn and what the industry actually needs. Real-time systems and embedded technology are shaping the future of automotive and industrial engineering, and it is important that our students get to work with these tools early, not just read about them in textbooks. We are thankful to QNX Canada and Pi Square Technologies for partnering with us, and confident that this lab will open up new opportunities for our students in terms of skills, certification, and career readiness." "The QNX Everywhere Lab is an important initiative to help students understand how real-world embedded and real-time technologies are developed and deployed across industries. By giving students access to QNX technology and industry-led projects, the programme allows them to gain practical experience with the same tools and systems used in demanding automotive and industrial applications. We are pleased to collaborate with Dnyaan Prasad Global University, by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune, and Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Technology Pune, along with Pi Square Technologies, to create this learning environment and support the development of skilled engineering talent for the future", noted Mr. Veer Beede, Director, Engineering Services, BlackBerry QNX. This initiative was part of Dnyaan Prasad Global University, by Dr. D. Y. Patil Group, Pune's larger commitment to experiential learning and industry collaboration, aimed at preparing students with globally relevant technical skills and recognised professional certifications for a fast-changing technology landscape.

BB stock looks to reverse 2 weeks of loss: retail cheers BlackBerry qnx-hailo tie-up as 'inflection point' ahead of earnings. Published: Aug 28 2026, 12:00 PM IST * FB * TW * Linkdin * Whatsapp * GNFollow Us Retail traders embrace QNX's Hailo partnership, citing stronger edge AI performance and growth potential in robotics. * BlackBerry's QNX added support for Hailo's Hailo-8 AI accelerator, targeting reliable AI applications in robotics, vehicles and industrial systems. * On Stocktwits, retail sentiment jumped to 'bullish' from 'bearish'. * The company is slated to report fiscal Q1 2027 earnings on Sept. 24. BlackBerry (BB) stock is looking to snap a two-week losing streak as retail investors cheer its QNX partnership with Hailo as a potential "inflection point." The deal adds Hailo's AI accelerator support to QNX, fueling optimism around BlackBerry's push into edge AI, robotics and other intelligent systems. QNX and Hailo target more predictable AI for robots, vehicles and machines. On Thursday, BlackBerry's QNX division and Israel-based AI company Hailo announced their collaboration as demand grows for AI systems that can make decisions directly on connected devices. QNX Software Development Platform 8.0 now supports Hailo's Hailo-8 AI accelerator, giving developers another hardware option for applications that require both computing speed and dependable real-time operation. The partnership targets systems that must respond consistently in physical environments, including robots, vehicles, medical equipment and industrial machinery. QNX and Hailo tested the setup with a Raspberry Pi 5 connected to a Hailo-8 accelerator. The companies compared QNX SDP 8.0 with a real-time Linux setup and found advantages in several performance measures. QNX recorded as much as 14 times better consistency in AI workload performance, a 2.6-fold improvement in latency distribution, 4.1% greater throughput and a 3.9% reduction in average latency. BlackBerry stock inched 0.8% lower overnight, ahead of Friday. The stock has gained over 7% this week and is on track to reverse two straight weeks of loss. BlackBerry growth bet beyond automotive with physical AI. In a recent interview, BlackBerry CEO John Giamatteo said QNX powers about 95% of vehicles using advanced software, with major chipmakers such as Nvidia, Qualcomm and Intel among its partners. He added that "physical AI" - including warehouse robots and surgical systems - is emerging as a fast-growing QNX business. In June, the company's CFO Tim Foote said the company has transformed from a cash-burning business into a profitable software company, delivering eight straight quarters of improved GAAP net income and positive cash generation. BlackBerry is slated to report its fiscal second-quarter 2027 earnings on Sept. 24. Analysts see $145.53 million in Q2 revenue with earnings of $0.04 per share, according to Fiscal Ai data. What BB retail traders are saying. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around the stock jumped to 'bullish' from 'bearish' territory the previous day with nearly a 100% increase in message volume over the past 24 hours. A user said, "Hailo endorsement is an inflection point for QNX. JW has said clearly, their benchmark on performance is Linux. If they can manage to match or exceed Linux. There is no limit what QNX can do on physical AI." Another user said, "As the number of QNX instances in autos goes from 1 to 4 by 2030 and SDV numbers double from 25 to 50% of market share, Newsable is going to see an 8x in QNX auto revenues. Add in 2x for general robotics and medical, Newsable'll be at 16x by 2030. A third user said, "300 million connected devices per year cumulatively added to QNX recurring revenue will be the snowball that keeps growing into an avalanche." BB stock has gained over 128% year-to-date. BlackBerry bets on cars and robots with $950M QNX backlog after losing phone war

BlackBerry, once a dominant phone maker, has reinvented itself as a software company focused on automotive systems and robotics. The company's share price has doubled this year as investors embrace its new direction. CEO John Giamatteo said BlackBerry now operates two main businesses: secure communications for governments and QNX, which provides operating systems for cars. QNX software is embedded in 275 million vehicles worldwide. Giamatteo sees robotics as a key growth area, particularly for industrial, factory, and medical applications. He revealed BlackBerry has a $950 million order backlog for QNX, with robotics representing a portion of that figure. The company's pivot from consumer smartphones to critical software infrastructure marks a dramatic transformation since losing the mobile phone war following the iPhone's launch in 2007.

US trade talks raise concerns in Canada over AI, tech rules.

US trade talks raise concerns in Canada over AI, tech rules. August 21, 2026 The US Trade Representative's mention of "digital trade alignment" as part of an agreement with Prime Minister Mark Carney's government is fueling concerns about Canada's ability to set its own policy for technology companies. The two countries appear to be on the cusp of a deal to reduce tariffs and address trade irritants. US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said in a social media post that it would include "comprehensive market access for all American goods, economic security commitments, digital trade alignment, and many important provisions." Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government introduced a number of policies aimed at regulating global tech giants operating in Canada, which led to frictions with both the Biden and Trump administrations. While Carney has diverged with his predecessor on some of those policies, his government's artificial intelligence plan vows to build up domestic digital infrastructure to reduce reliance on foreign cloud providers. Investor Jim Balsillie, the former co-chief executive officer of BlackBerry Ltd. and current chair of the Council of Canadian Innovators, said trade agreements are no longer just about the free flow of goods, but rather are becoming "instruments of regulatory remote control." "What is the alignment that's covered?" Balsillie said in an interview about Greer's characterization of the deal. "Is it liability for bad behavior? Is it copyright for how these algorithms ingest models? Is it the ability to do privacy or procurement or sovereign compute? There are many, many questions that go into governing a sovereign, prosperous country. And the devil's going to be in the details." Balsillie said Canada opened the door to US meddling in domestic policy in 2018 when it signed the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement, which included digital trade rules that mandated cross-border data flows and restricted data localization, or requiring firms to store data locally. Earlier this year, the USTR complained about some of Canada's digital policies in an annual report on trade barriers, including the Online Streaming Act, which required global entertainment platforms such as Netflix Inc. to make financial contributions toward Canadian content. The report also criticized the Online News Act, which attempted to force major social media and search companies to pay publishers for carrying links to news stories. Meta Platforms Inc. balked, and now Facebook users in Canada aren't able to post links to articles from established news providers, including Bloomberg News. The USTR has also flagged Canada's initiative to create sovereign cloud-computing infrastructure, meant to ensure that advanced computing power and sensitive data remain under Canadian legal control. The Carney government has already taken steps to alleviate some of the Trump administration's digital policy concerns, including dropping a digital services tax and replacing a requirement for streamers to contribute 15% of their revenues to Canadian content. Vass Bednar, managing director of the Canadian SHIELD Institute think tank, said the term "alignment" raises concerns about whether Canada will walk back any of its commitments on digital sovereignty, such as ensuring Canadians' data is governed domestically. "One of the elements we are worried about, or I'm worried about, is if Canada's going to also step back from these initial commitments we've made, these initial investments in our own sovereignty and resilience," Bednar said.
