Requirements
  • Prior experience in technical leadership roles driving business, product, and technical outcomes, such as tech lead, manager, or director.
  • Hands-on development and design experience with demanding architectures involving scale, security, and product considerations.
  • Ability to onboard effectively to a variety of technology stacks, including React, Python, AWS, and MongoDB.
  • Experience managing and scaling multiple teams while balancing personal impact.
  • Experience shepherding engineering organizations through major technical decisions, changes in scale, and maturation of technology platforms powering mission-critical products.
  • Experience representing an organization and company in internal and external high-stakes conversations.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, especially startups.
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Ownership mentality with a commitment to delivering results for customers.
Responsibilities
  • Own multiple product squads within the engineering organization and provide independent leadership for them.
  • Deliver all goals for squads under leadership.
  • Manage team members across squads and drive their results and retention within company and team goals.
  • Shepherd architecture and engineering decisions and development priorities in the context of product and business goals.
  • Establish healthy teams that deliver value sustainably, efficiently, and with high quality.
  • Partner with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to define squad goals and align engineering priorities.
  • Develop staffing strategies for teams under leadership while balancing company and squad goals with business constraints.
  • Identify and advance technical decisions that improve squads’ ability to deliver against goals at high quality.
  • Multiply squad impact through culture, process, tooling, and technology.
  • Own critical relationships with internal and external stakeholders enabling or depending on squad work.
  • Establish practices that build quality into development processes across squads and the engineering organization.
  • Facilitate continuous learning and improvement from production errors and incidents.
  • Raise team standards for security, testing, and scaling practices.
  • Act as the escalation point for major production issues and establish processes and technology improvements to reduce escalations.
  • Recruit, hire, and manage team members across multiple squads.
  • Own retention and growth of team members and align growth with business value and role expectations.
  • Own performance management for squads and deliver regular feedback and guidance.
  • Ensure teams operate with high velocity and clarity on their goals.
  • Unblock cross-team and cross-functional challenges that hinder delivery.
  • Ensure effective collaboration among engineering squad members and other functions and teams.
  • Monitor and act on learnings from sprint retrospectives, project progress, and team reflections to improve team operations.
  • Take hands-on ownership of challenging or critical needs when necessary.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve the overall engineering organization.
  • Support team members through pairing, review, and related activities to improve decision-making.
  • Represent the team and organization in internal and external settings.
