About the job

Requirements
  • At least 15 years of software engineering experience focused on frontend or web platform engineering at a high-growth technology company or top-tier AI lab.
  • Deep expertise in web platform internals, including Web Components and Shadow DOM, server-side rendering and hydration, streaming, module loading, and browser performance; production experience with Lit.js, React, or comparable frameworks and an understanding of their tradeoffs.
  • Strong server-side JavaScript and TypeScript engineering skills, including Node.js, HTTP/2, proxies and streaming, V8 memory behavior, and isolate- or worker-based execution models.
  • Hands-on experience running latency-sensitive services on Kubernetes, including resource management, rollout strategies, Helm, and production observability.
  • Strong web security fundamentals, including session and token handling, egress control, sandboxing untrusted code, and trust boundaries in multi-tenant systems.
  • Experience shipping intelligent, AI-driven user experiences and understanding how agent and model output should be presented to users.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic or multi-agent systems from the consumer side.
  • Understanding of agent orchestration, tool-calling protocols such as MCP or equivalent, and reasoning traceability sufficient to design user experiences and platform primitives around them.
  • Experience designing frameworks, software development kits, or design systems adopted by many teams, including versioning, backward compatibility, and migration strategy.
  • A track record of connecting platform and user-experience decisions to business outcomes such as adoption, retention, and time-to-market.
  • Ability to identify gaps, propose solutions, align stakeholders, and execute at startup pace.
Responsibilities
  • Define and own the long-term architecture of a server-rendered web component platform that powers AI-native user experiences across the product, making decisions on rendering, component runtime, design systems, and streaming user experience for AI-generated content, while keeping the experience layer resilient and coherent as the platform scales.
  • Own end-to-end experience performance, including server-side rendering, streaming HTML, hydration correctness, and time-to-interactive; advance server rendering of web components so experiences are fast, deterministic, and consistent between server and client.
  • Build platform primitives that product teams use to expose agentic backends to end users, including recommendations, autonomous triage, generated insights, and multi-step agent reasoning.
  • Address user-experience challenges specific to AI-native products, including streaming model output, progressive disclosure of agent reasoning, handling latency and uncertainty, and human-in-the-loop review flows that make autonomous behavior legible and controllable.
  • Design the production platform runtime on Kubernetes, including sandboxed application-code execution, multi-tenant isolation, secure credential and token propagation, memory and resource budgeting, version-tiered rollouts, and observability for a large Node.js fleet under real traffic.
  • Shape the component model, data-loading and context APIs, design system, tooling, and guardrails that enable teams to build applications on the platform.
  • Work with machine-learning and platform teams building agent orchestration and tool-calling infrastructure, including multi-agent dispatch, MCP-style tool integration, and reasoning traceability; translate backend capabilities into usable, safe, and trustworthy user-experience patterns.
  • Connect platform and experience architecture to business goals so engineering velocity, experience quality, and adoption of AI-native features support customer acquisition, retention, and time-to-market.
  • Write high-performance, production-grade code across the experience stack, including TypeScript, Lit.js or Web Components, Node.js, and modern build tooling, and the runtime stack, including Kubernetes and containerized services.
  • Debug complex issues, including hydration mismatches, memory leaks, and intermittent production failures.
  • Drive business-critical platform outcomes with machine-learning, backend platform, site reliability engineering, security, user-experience, and product teams.
  • Mentor senior and staff engineers, lead architecture reviews, raise testing and reliability standards, and build a culture of rapid, impact-driven innovation.
  • Identify platform and experience gaps, propose solutions, align stakeholders, and own execution.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in distributed-systems performance and scalability or large-scale Node.js fleet operations.
  • Open-source contributions to major web frameworks, server-side rendering tooling, build systems, design systems, or agent-framework projects.
  • Experience with enterprise software-as-a-service platforms and their extensibility and customization models.
  • Prior startup experience working closely with Product and Growth teams in an early-stage environment.

  • Subscriptions grew: ServiceNow reported $3.877 billion in subscription revenue for the June 2026 quarter, up 24.5% year over year.
  • Hybrid work is established: ServiceNow says most staff have flexible arrangements, requiring two or more office days weekly.
  • Security work expanded: the April 2026 Armis acquisition added protection for industrial equipment, medical devices, and connected hardware.

What critics are saying

  • Subscription margins narrowed: in June 2026, ServiceNow kept 73.5% of subscription revenue after direct costs, versus 80% a year earlier.
  • Remote roles limit relocation: ServiceNow requires staff to remain within their employment state, province, region, or country.
  • Older versions lose support: ServiceNow supports two release families and schedules upgrades for customers who fall behind.

What makes ServiceNow unique

ServiceNow CFO: Overwork doesn't make a better leader, recovery drives performance

ServiceNow president and chief financial officer Gina Mastantuono says overwork does not make a better leader. Speaking at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit, she said recovery is a prerequisite for high performance, not a distraction from it. She criticised the idea that 14-hour days and four hours of sleep show commitment. "That is such a terrible example for the people around us," she said. Prioritising recovery helped her listen more thoughtfully, stay composed under pressure, and improve her work-life balance. Fellow panellist Alicia Hatch of Deloitte said 94% of female C-suite executives played sports growing up. Deloitte projects global women's sports revenue will reach at least $3 billion in 2026, a 340% rise over four years.

Over 25% of S&P 500 stocks are down 40%+: four bargain tech picks, from Netflix to Oracle

More than 25% of S&P 500 stocks are down 40% or more from their highs, even with the index near record levels, as of October 8, 2026. The Motley Fool sees that as a chance to hunt for bargains in tech. It names four picks. Netflix trades at about 18.5 times 2027 analyst earnings estimates, and advertising should drive its growth. Oracle has a $664 billion backlog in cloud infrastructure, but carries heavy debt and burns cash. ServiceNow, hit by the 2026 software sell-off, trades at 7.5 times forward sales as it pushes into agentic AI. AppLovin trades at 13 times 2027 earnings estimates. Its revenue rose 53% last quarter to $1.9 billion.

CFOs at Chevron, ServiceNow and Nasdaq say AI must earn capital; ServiceNow targets $500M savings

Chevron, ServiceNow and Nasdaq finance chiefs say AI projects must prove their worth before getting funded. They spoke on a panel at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Santa Barbara on Tuesday. Chevron's chief financial officer, Eimear Bonner, said AI "has got to compete for capital" and cannot be "a science experiment." She wants a clear path to value and results that reach the bottom line. ServiceNow's Gina Mastantuno said CFOs must also weigh the cost of falling behind rivals. The company expects $500 million in savings this year, largely from using its own products. Nasdaq's Sarah Youngwood sorts investments by time horizon and tracks AI metrics such as coding speed, client retention and token costs.
