About the job
- A high school diploma or GED and some medical knowledge are required.
- Ability to understand and practice bookkeeping and accounting terminology is required.
- Ability to operate computers and other office machines is required.
- Bilingual ability is required.
- Conduct eligibility reviews for clients according to the procedures and guidelines of each program.
- Ensure clients do not have another payer source, such as Medicaid, Medicare, ADAP, or other third-party insurance.
- Register clients in the CPCDMS.
- Complete all necessary paperwork.
- Enter eligible clients' information into the electronic system.
- Maintain current and orderly eligibility files.
- Conduct eligibility renewals as required by each program.
- Confirm eligibility appointments with clients.
- Schedule initial service appointments after eligibility is determined.
- Provide clients with a list of required eligibility documentation.
- Participate in the Performance Improvement Program.
- Treat patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees with respect and regard for their dignity, supporting a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Promote effective working relationships and collaborate as part of a team to help the department meet its goals and objectives.
- Attend required safety training and explain responsibilities related to general safety, department or service safety, and job-related hazards.
- Attend required safety education programs.
- Operate assigned equipment and perform procedures safely as instructed.
- Maintain the work area and equipment according to Legacy standards.
- Use proper body mechanics in all functions.
- Check the patient's environment and equipment for safety.
- Report safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
- Follow Legacy's exposure control plans and precautions for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Use protective barrier equipment correctly and demonstrate knowledge of techniques and procedures, including Universal Precautions.
- Maintain a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
- Attend annual education programs.
- Travel to other sites for training and/or coverage as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of 3–5 years of medical billing experience is preferred.
- Training or background in ICD-A and CPT codes is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices is preferred.
