Ontario issues $25,000 penalty to SeatGeek Canada for ticket resale violations.

Ontario issues $25,000 penalty to SeatGeek Canada for ticket resale violations. SeatGeek Canada Inc. was issued an administrative penalty of $25,000 for failing to comply with requirements under the Ticket Sales Act, 2017, including clear requirements prohibiting the resale of event tickets above their original total purchase price. The penalty is the result of new financial enforcement measures introduced by the province through the 2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario, to crack down on illegal ticket resales, protect consumers and families, and keep tickets affordable for fans and families. On August 28, 2026, SeatGeek Canada Inc. was issued a total financial penalty of $25,000 for the following contraventions: * $10,000 for failing to ensure that tickets offered for sale on the secondary market did not exceed the total price originally paid to the primary seller. * $10,000 for failing to disclose the original total purchase price of tickets offered for resale. * $5,000 for facilitating the resale of tickets without obtaining proof of the total price originally paid to the primary seller. The company was issued a financial penalty on August 28, 2026, following an inspection conducted on August 5, 2026. SeatGeek Canada Inc. had 15 days to appeal the penalty to the Licence Appeal Tribunal. As it did not file an appeal within that period, the company is required to pay the $25,000 within 30 days of receiving the penalty. Quick facts. * The Ticket Sales Act, 2017, makes it illegal for tickets for live events in Ontario to be re-sold for more than their original cost, which is the all-in price originally paid to the primary seller, plus any fees, service charges or applicable taxes charged on the resale. * The resale price cap applies to anyone who resells a ticket and to any platform that facilitates a ticket resale. * Under the new changes to the Act, ticket businesses can face administrative penalties of up to $25,000 for each contravention. Businesses that violate multiple requirements under the Act can therefore face multiple penalties of up to $25,000 each. * Business can also face fines up to $250,000 if convicted of an offence by the courts. Individuals, including officers or directors of a corporation that are found guilty, can also face court-ordered fines up to $50,000 or imprisonment for a term of not more than two years less a day, or both. * Actions, including this administrative action, under the Ticket Sales Act, 2017, can be found on the Consumer Beware List.

SeatGeek expands agentic ambitions with in-platform launch.

SeatGeek expands agentic ambitions with in-platform launch. Seeking "personalisation" for users, the company is one of the first to integrate conversational search into its own ecosystem News By Hanna Ellington | 27 August 2026 SeatGeek is launching an in-platform conversational AI search engine, Ask SeatGeek, making it one of the first major ticketing platforms to bring AI-powered event discovery directly into its own marketplace. The effort builds on the company's existing partnerships with Google and its ChatGPT app, as the company looks to expand how fans discover live events and buy tickets through conversation-led queries across its ecosystem. Traffic and conversion from AI tools are already proving valuable for ticket sellers like SeatGeek, which told TicketNews that visitors arriving on the site from AI platforms convert at twice the rate as those from traditional search, signalling the growing value of the pathway. While other major ticketing players like Ticketmaster and StubHub have also struck partnerships with ChatGPT and Google in recent months, SeatGeek's move appears to be among the first attempts by a major ticketing organisation to embed conversational search into its native platform. "Retrieval is only the first chapter of AI-powered commerce" "We've spent 17 years organising the details that matter when someone chooses a ticket - from price and location to sightlines and seat perks," says Jack Groetzinger, SeatGeek co-founder/CEO. "Ask SeatGeek gives fans a simpler way to use that information: ask a question in their own words and get an answer they can act on." Ticketing platforms are increasingly looking to agentic search functions to aid fans' event discovery through natural language, as opposed to keyword searches and filters. SeatGeek says the new venture will go beyond retrieving event information by using "context" and "personalisation" to tailor recommendations, "so that two fans asking the same question get recommendations suited to each of them," says the company. "Most AI shopping tools today are good at retrieving facts. Ask what's available, and you get back seats and prices. Retrieval is only the first chapter of AI-powered commerce," it says. "SeatGeek sees this as the direction conversational commerce is heading, and Ask SeatGeek is the foundation the company is building it on." SeatGeek launches AI-powered conversational search built on 17 years of seat-level data

SeatGeek has launched Ask SeatGeek, a conversational AI search tool integrated into its ticketing marketplace. The feature allows users to search for tickets using natural language queries, such as "cheapest club seats for weekday Mets games." Built on 17 years of seat-level data, the tool provides answers combining interactive maps, view-from-seat imagery, and pricing information. The feature sits within SeatGeek's existing search bar rather than as a separate chatbot. SeatGeek previously integrated conversational search into ChatGPT in March 2026, becoming the first ticketing platform to combine primary and resale inventory in a single AI experience. The company has since extended similar functionality to Google's AI search and Spotify. "Ask SeatGeek gives fans a simpler way to use that information: ask a question in their own words and get an answer they can act on," said Jack Groetzinger, co-founder and CEO.
