Requirements
  • At least 6 months of experience facilitating instruction with an emphasis on youth requiring academic intervention.
  • Experience with general youth program group or classroom management.
  • Ability to implement engaging academic activities and promote healthy study habits.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the age-appropriate curriculum for the assigned subject in accordance with Hawaii Department of Education standards.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, multitasking, collaborative, and flexible skills.
  • Experience engaging middle and high school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways, and other personal development areas.
  • Mature judgment and sound decision-making ability.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of YMCA mission, core values, purpose, goals, policies, and standards.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks.
  • Completion of mandatory Praesidium child-protection training and reporting of concerns.
Responsibilities
  • Design and lead student-centered clubs and activities for youth in grades 6 through 12.
  • Create engaging after-school sports experiences in collaboration with YMCA leadership and program participants.
  • Connect with community members and organizations that support student interests.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment that supports program goals and student growth.
  • Create a positive work and learning environment for staff and program participants.
  • Support ongoing program improvement efforts and promote personal growth, community engagement, and participant retention.
  • Communicate consistently and professionally with participants, parents, coworkers, and others associated with the program.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Assist in supervising and guiding junior staff members by providing mentorship and support.
  • Research and develop creative programs, workshops, activities, and engagement methods focused on teen development.
  • Suggest program improvements, participate in staff meetings, and provide feedback.
  • Assist with coordinating events and activities that promote student engagement and motivation.
  • Facilitate programming that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes teens in an all-inclusive environment.
  • Ensure the program meets YMCA standards of excellence.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Windows 10 and above, and Canva.
  • General office operations experience.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification; training is available upon hire.
