Weir launches ESCO(R) Production Master(TM) excavator hoe buckets. A completely new concept for mining class excavators Weir - ESCO 01 July 2026 ESCO development engineers started with a clean slate to conceptualise and construct a mining hoe bucket that exceeded customer expectations in all areas of performance and durability. Through years of experience, field research and computer simulation, the Production Master(TM) hoe bucket was refined with exacting specifications. The initial Production Master(TM) bucket accumulated over 8,700 hours during its first campaign operating on an EX3600 at a South American coal mine in Colombia. When the machine was shut down for its preventive maintenance event, no repairs were needed to the bucket, only replacement of the GET - a true testament to the advanced capabilities of the Production Master(TM) bucket. ESCO(R) Production Master(TM) hoe buckets target 350T class machines and larger with extremely durable, integral nose cast lips. For smaller mining class machines, plate lip versions are an option. All Production Master buckets are custom engineered to meet or exceed customer requirements specific to the machine, operating conditions and production targets. Weir expands WA footprint with new Perth facility. Image: Weir Mining technology company Weir has expanded its Western Australian operations with the opening of a new purpose-built Minerals Division facility in Hazelmere, significantly boosting its service and engineering capabilities in the state. The 14,500-square-metre site increases Weir's capacity to service and rebuild critical mining equipment, enabling faster turnaround times and strengthening support for mining customers across Western Australia. Strategically located in Hazelmere, the facility improves connectivity with key mining regions, transport networks and customers throughout the state. The site was officially opened on May 28 by Western Australia Minister for Mines and Petroleum David Michael. At the heart of the new operation is a 4500-square-metre heavy-duty workshop equipped with 80-tonne and 50-tonne overhead cranes, allowing the company to handle large-scale equipment and undertake complex maintenance and rebuild projects more efficiently. The facility also features dedicated blast, paint and cleaning rooms, as well as a provisioned area for future excitor testing. A modern office fit-out includes contemporary workstations, meeting rooms and breakout spaces designed to support collaboration and productivity. The Hazelmere site provides comprehensive support across Weir's minerals processing portfolio, including parts and spares supply, service, repair and rebuild capabilities. Equipment supported includes WARMAN slurry pumps, GEHO positive displacement pumps, Isogate valves, CAVEX hydrocyclones and the ENDURON comminution range, including screens and crushers. Specialist wear solutions and LINATEX premium rubber lining are also backed by in-house engineering expertise and technical services. Weir said the investment reflects sustained demand from mining customers across Western Australia and reinforces its long-term commitment to the region. "This investment significantly strengthens our ability to support mining customers across Western Australia," Weir West Director - Minerals Division APAC Bernard Brussow said. "With expanded capacity and advanced facilities, we are better positioned to help our customers maximise uptime and performance." The facility also incorporates sustainability initiatives, including solar generation and smart energy systems, and has achieved a 5 Star Green Building rating.
Weir brings next-gen Motion Metrics to P&H shovels. Weir has launched next-generation Motion Metrics payload monitoring support for P&H electric mining shovels, bringing precision loading to a significantly larger share of the global mining fleet. "We're proud to bring our most advanced payload monitoring technology to P&H shovels. This expansion unlocks shovel-based loading intelligence for a much larger share of the global fleet, helping mines move more material with fewer resources, extend equipment life, and make measurable progress toward their productivity and sustainability goals," said Ali Torabi, senior engineering manager at Weir. The addition of P&H compatibility delivers high-confidence payload measurement to larger-scale shovel fleets. Motion Metrics integrates ruggedized precision sensors directly onto the shovel, enabling real-time bucket weight measurement, automatic cycle tracking, and intuitive visual and audio cues that help operators consistently hit target payloads with confidence. By shifting payload intelligence upstream from the truck to the shovel, noted Weir, operators gain real-time, actionable guidance in the cab when it matters most. This replaces estimation and variability with precision, bucket by bucket and shift after shift. According to Weir, ShovelMetrics Gen 3 cameras integrate seamlessly into existing Motion Metrics installations, with no additional in-cab screens required. Operators receive intuitive, real-time feedback at the shovel, supervisors access comprehensive cloud-based reporting, and mines gain a scalable platform that delivers long-term value across operations. As mining companies continue to pursue higher throughput, lower operating costs, and stronger ESG performance, extending shovel-based payload intelligence to more machine types represents a practical and scalable step forward.
H2 flow: Weir's Multiflo(R) dewatering solutions deliver reliability in the most extreme conditions. 13th May 2026 Across the global mining landscape, few operational challenges are as persistent - or as potentially disruptive - as water management, when uncontrolled water can halt production, damage equipment and compromise worker safety, Ian Ross, Global Product Manager of Dewatering Solutions for Weir, says. Two major mining operations - Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL)'s Rampura Agucha mine, in India, and KAZ Minerals' Aktogay copper mine in Kazakhstan - faced significant environmental and weather-related challenges, with Weir working with both operations to design, develop and implement mine dewatering systems to ensure production could continue, despite the extreme conditions. Ross said: "Together, these success stories demonstrate how robust engineering, bespoke design and on-site partnership can transform water management from a vulnerability into a competitive advantage." Rampura Agucha is a 300-m-deep open-pit operation in Rajasthan. During India's intense monsoon season, the pit routinely flooded, creating hazardous conditions and forcing production shutdowns. HZL's previous bore-well pump system proved unreliable, with electric cables repeatedly damaged by heavy haul trucks. Voltage drops also caused frequent pump failures. Seeking a dependable alternative, HZL turned to Weir, which proposed a skid-mounted Multiflo(R) 210MV diesel-driven dewatering unit equipped with a self-priming vacuum system. This eliminated the need for electrical power and ensured continuous operation even at low water levels. The system was deployed in a three-stage configuration - one primary pump at the pit bottom and two booster units at higher elevations - to rapidly clear floodwater. "The results were transformative," Ross said. "HZL experienced seven consecutive years without a single monsoon-related shutdown. As a result, HZL installed an additional 14 Multiflo units, achieving a combined pumping capacity of 1 million cu.m/mth during peak monsoon." Over 3,000 km away, Aktogay faced a different but equally demanding challenge. Located in Kazakhstan's Abai region, the site experiences extreme temperature swings - from -20°C winters to +30°C summers - making water management particularly difficult. The mine required a portable, dieselpowered dewatering system capable of handling large volumes of return water while operating reliably in sub-zero conditions. Weir responded with a custom-engineered Multiflo RF-90HV unit, designed specifically for the site's environmental and operational constraints. Weir's new Multiflo(R) GMS skid-mounted pump range represents the next evolution of dewatering solutions The solution included a diesel-driven vacuum self-priming pump mounted on a heavy-duty skid, which enabled the operator to move it along the tailings dam. Weir also designed an external enclose to house the pump and skid, which was portable and provided the insulation needed to keep the pumping system warm during the coldest winter months and cool during the warmest summer months, Ross explained. Additionally, the pump can handle solids with high and varying flow rates at medium pressure heads. A specially designed suction strainer was provided to eliminate clogging and reduce suction losses. A suction boom was also provided to support and adjust the suction pipe appropriately. Ross said: "This solution ensured continuous operation throughout the year, even during the harshest winter conditions." The Multiflo RF-90HV delivered reliable performance, easy maintenance and the flexibility to relocate the unit as tailings dam conditions changed, according to Weir, being key advantages for a remote, climate-challenged operation. Ross said: "Though separated by geography and climate, both mines share a common challenge: water management was a critical operational risk until Weir's Multiflo technology and solutions reshaped their approach. "Across both sites, the Multiflo systems delivered: uninterrupted operation during the most challenging seasons; improved worker safety by eliminating electrical hazards and reducing flooding; high mobility, allowing pumps to be repositioned as mine conditions evolved; diesel-driven independence from unstable or unavailable electrical infrastructure; and long-term reliability, supported by Weir's aftermarket service teams." These outcomes underscore the value of engineered solutions tailored to real-world mining conditions, and Weir has recently updated its Multiflo range to ensure it can deliver improved value, lead times and manufacturing efficiency. Ross explained: "Available in both diesel-driven and electric-driven configurations, the new Multiflo GMS pump units retain the proven 'DNA' of existing Multiflo technology while introducing a modernised, configured-to-order design for globalised mass manufacture."
