MHK jumps as Mohawk Industries plans aggressive buybacks.

MHK jumps as Mohawk Industries plans aggressive buybacks. TIM BOHEN - UPDATED SEP. 25, 2026, 4:48 PM ET Summarize this article Mohawk Industries Inc. stocks have been trading up by 4.76 percent after upbeat housing demand forecasts boosted investor confidence. What traders need to know. * Truist sees Mohawk Industries re-rating higher as a new CEO shifts focus to margin expansion, portfolio pruning, and share buybacks potentially reaching 20% of market cap. * The firm argues fears of long-term decline are overdone, saying LVT flooring share gains have likely peaked, easing pressure on Mohawk Industries Inc. * Management is holding investor meetings with Truist in New York and Boston on 2026/09/02-2026/09/03, aiming to reset the story and improve communication. * Recent weekly action shows MHK pushing from the low $120s toward $125, signaling fresh buying interest into this narrative. Weekly Update Sep 21 - Sep 25, 2026: On Friday, September 25, 2026 Mohawk Industries Inc. stock [NYSE: MHK] is trending up by 4.76%! Discover the key drivers behind this movement as well as its expert analysis in the detailed breakdown below. Consumer Discretionary industry expert: Analyst sentiment - positive Mohawk Industries holds a solid but cyclical leadership position in global flooring, with Q2 revenue annualizing near $12B and modest growth after several flat years (3-year revenue CAGR negative, 5-year barely positive). Profitability is improving but still subpar: EBIT margin of 4.1% and EBITDA margin of 10.2% lag prior-cycle highs, reflected in mid-single-digit ROE and ROIC. Balance sheet quality is a clear strength: net leverage is low (total debt/equity 0.28, interest coverage 85x) and cash conversion is robust, with Q2 free cash flow of $228M and price-to-FCF of 8.7x and P/B just under 1x supporting a value-oriented long thesis. Weekly price data show a strong, near-straight-line advance from roughly $117 to $125, confirming a clear short-term uptrend and likely breakout from prior congestion. Intraday 5-minute candles have shown constructive buying on dips with higher lows and sustained closes near session highs, supported by above-average volume on up-moves and lighter volume on pullbacks. The key actionable level is $121: traders should treat it as first support and a tactical add zone, with tight downside control below $117 where the current breakout structure would be invalidated. Near-term catalysts are firmly skewed to the upside. Truist's view of a re-rating driven by a new CEO, explicit margin-expansion focus, portfolio pruning (including potential sale of a non-core European insulation/ceiling asset), and a buyback program up to 20% of market cap directly targets Mohawk's valuation discount to Consumer Discretionary and Home & Homeware peers. As execution becomes visible, I expect multiple expansion toward 12-13x forward EPS, supporting a 6-12 month price target range of $145-$155, with technical resistance near $135 and firm support in the $118-121 band. Quick financial overview. Mohawk Industries Inc. is trying to turn a low-expectation story into a margin and buyback story. Revenue over the last year runs near $10.8B, but three-year revenue growth is slightly negative, which explains why the market has been cautious. At the same time, MHK trades at a price-to-sales ratio around 0.73 and price-to-book near 0.95, signaling the stock is priced like a value laggard, not a growth name. Profitability is modest but improving. Recent quarterly revenue of about $2.99B produced gross margin of 24.3% and EBITDA margin just above 10%, with EBIT margin a bit above 4%. That translated into net income of roughly $196.1M and diluted EPS of $3.22 for the quarter, a decent earnings power base given the mid-teens P/E around 15.8. Returns on equity in the low single digits show room for upside if the new CEO can execute on margin expansion. Balance sheet strength backs the Truist narrative. Total debt-to-equity of 0.28, interest coverage above 80, and a current ratio near 1.9 give Mohawk Industries Inc. flexibility to prune lower-return units and fund buybacks. Free cash flow last quarter was about $228.2M against operating cash flow of $316.5M, enough to support meaningful repurchases. On the tape, weekly closes stepped from about $117 to $125, while intraday action shows a steady trend day: a morning base around $120-$122, then a controlled push and hold near $124-$125 into the close. Most trading gurus claim they never lose. Tim Sykes says his win rate runs around 74%, meaning roughly a quarter of his trades lose money, and he's fine saying so on camera. The math still works because his winners are built to run far bigger than his losers. He explains the exact setup behind that asymmetry in a short video.
