Brightstar Capital Partners buys majority stake in forklift provider Material Handling Group

Brightstar Capital Partners, a private equity firm, has acquired a majority interest in Material Handling Group USA (MHG), a provider of new, used, and rental material handling equipment and aftermarket parts and service. Financial terms were not disclosed. MHG serves customers in Michigan, New York, and the Mid-Atlantic region through its Fraza, Vitan Equipment, Matthai Material Handling, and Buffalo Lift Trucks brands. Founded in 1938 as a forklift repair shop in Detroit, it is now based in Canton, Michigan. Chief executive officer Roger Runyan, who bought the business in 2017, will stay on and keep a meaningful stake. Jonathan Dawley, former president and chief executive officer of KION North America, will serve as executive chair. Brightstar, which manages about $5 billion in assets, plans to grow MHG organically and through selective acquisitions, and to bring technology and AI to its technicians.
