Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Health Care, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Healthcare Compliance Certification from the Compliance Certification Board must be obtained within six months of appointment and maintained throughout employment.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in health and medical services or a related field is required.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills are required.
  • A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is required.
  • A thorough understanding of federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and guidance governing fraud, waste and abuse; billings, payments, overpayments, and mandatory reporting; provider exclusions; whistleblower protection; human subject research compliance; quality assurance; corporate governance; health information privacy and security; employee privacy and confidentiality; conditions and other requirements for participation in government healthcare programs; and other compliance-related topics is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day operations within the region’s compliance program affecting Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and ensure alignment with the Enterprise Corporate Compliance Program.
  • Implement risk-based management of compliance reports and guidance requests, including hotline reports through Jefferson’s Alert Line and responses to regulatory notices.
  • Develop, oversee, update, and manage region-related policies owned by the enterprise corporate compliance team in collaboration with the enterprise compliance team.
  • Deliver education, updates, and support to key stakeholders, including senior leadership and management personnel, regarding compliance-owned policies, Jefferson’s Code of Conduct, and Ethical Behavior.
  • Serve as a liaison with departmental and hospital functional areas to represent compliance program initiatives and approved workplan activities.
  • Provide daily compliance guidance to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to ensure alignment with federal and state regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate alleged violations of policies, procedures, and standards of conduct; recommend or initiate investigations; and develop appropriate corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Plan and support internal proactive audits, including periodic updates to internal compliance team members, key stakeholders, and business units.
  • Coordinate with the Regional Compliance Officer in managing external investigations and audits by regulatory enforcement agencies.
  • Coordinate and support the planning and execution of materials for compliance governance reporting, including hospital board compliance and privacy committees and the management compliance council or steering committees.
  • Provide timely compliance reports to internal compliance team members on key performance indicators and industry benchmarking data associated with local hospital and regional compliance activities.
  • Use judgment and collaboration to develop departmental compliance work plans, evaluate audit findings, investigate compliance matters, develop corrective and preventive action plans, and provide targeted education and resources.
  • Assist with managing staff and delegating assignments.
  • Lead internal investigations and provide routine and ad hoc reports.
  • Manage regional benchmarking efforts relating to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
  • Analyze new developments in compliance and industry best practices affecting health care organizations and provide updates to the internal compliance office and potential external stakeholders.
  • Conduct activities to continuously assess and improve compliance effectiveness at the regional and enterprise levels.
  • Prepare summary reports concerning strategic initiatives, audits, investigations, and corrective action plans.
  • Assist the Chief Compliance Officer and compliance leadership team in ensuring that Jefferson Health’s Compliance Program meets federal regulators’ standards for effective health care compliance programs.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Juris Doctor or master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience and/or certifications in acute care facilities or other physician practice group environments is highly preferred.
  • Hospital or physician practice group experience with a state department of health is highly desirable.
