About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field is required.
  • At least 4 years of experience building or significantly extending ML evaluation systems, including designing evaluation benchmarks or quality assessment frameworks for sequential or multi-step AI outputs, is required.
  • Experience independently defining evaluation architecture and methodology for AI or ML systems, including evaluation approaches where the unit of analysis is a conversation or session rather than a single output, is required.
  • Experience designing adversarial or red-teaming test methodologies for ML models or AI-powered features, including adversarial scenarios targeting failures across multi-turn interactions, is required.
  • Experience with Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow in production or near-production settings is required.
  • A track record of owning technical direction for evaluation efforts across multiple features or product areas is required.
Responsibilities
  • Define and own the automated evaluation approach for AI features, translating qualitative notions of quality into measurable, reproducible assessments across single-turn and multi-turn agentic experiences.
  • Build adversarial test suites targeting known and emerging model failure modes, including productivity application workflow edge cases and conversation-level failures such as context loss, instruction forgetting, and cascading errors across multi-step tasks.
  • Develop and execute stress test protocols validating minimum performance thresholds under atypical input conditions, including extended conversation lengths, adversarial mid-conversation topic shifts, and complex tool-use sequences.
  • Ensure ongoing alignment between automated and human evaluation methods by identifying and resolving systematic disagreements.
  • Collaborate with engineering partners to integrate evaluation into development and release workflows.
  • Scale adversarial test case generation and stress test execution using automation, including programmatic generation of multi-turn conversation scenarios and agent interaction traces.
  • Influence model and feature quality decisions by communicating evaluation findings and readiness assessments to cross-functional partners.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience evaluating user-facing AI features in consumer applications and connecting technical metrics to user-perceived quality.
  • Familiarity with productivity software or creative tools and the ability to assess output quality from a user workflow perspective.
  • Experience aligning automated and human evaluation methods, including inter-annotator agreement analysis and bias detection.
  • A track record of designing evaluation systems that scale across multiple features or product areas without bespoke solutions for each.
  • Experience evaluating API-based and custom-trained AI systems.
  • Ability to communicate evaluation findings and readiness assessments to cross-functional partners.
  • Experience using automation to scale evaluation data generation and analysis.
  • Experience building evaluation pipelines for conversational AI, dialogue systems, or agentic workflows, including turn-level and session-level automated scoring.
  • Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, and AutoGen, and observability tools such as LangSmith, Braintrust, and Arize, including instrumenting and evaluating multi-step agent runs.
  • Experience designing adversarial tests for tool-use reliability, function-calling accuracy, or agent planning quality.
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field.

Qualcomm's Apple patent renewal secures $1.28B licensing revenue despite modem shift

Qualcomm has renewed its global patent licensing agreement with Apple, effective from 1 April 2027. Despite Apple developing its own modems and reducing chip purchases from Qualcomm, the iPhone maker will continue paying royalties to use Qualcomm's wireless technology patents. Qualcomm's licensing unit generated $1.28 billion last quarter at a 69% margin. The company's automotive revenue reached $1.59 billion, up 61%, marking its 23rd consecutive quarter of double-digit growth. Management expects non-handset growth to accelerate from 24% in fiscal 2026 to over 60% in fiscal 2027. Qualcomm shares trade at 15.34 times free cash flow, compared to Broadcom's approximate 43 times multiple. The company generated $12.82 billion in free cash flow in fiscal 2025 and returned $12.60 billion to shareholders. However, handset revenue fell 20% to $5.09 billion, with Android revenue expected to decline 20% this year.

Apple CEO Ternus eyes faster product releases and management cuts

Apple CEO John Ternus is exploring a faster, more flexible product strategy, potentially moving away from the company's traditional spring and autumn release schedule, Bloomberg reported. The chief executive, who succeeded Tim Cook earlier this month, is also considering reducing management layers to enable direct interaction between engineers and senior leaders. Changes are already underway in Apple's hardware organisation, with several engineering program manager positions recently eliminated. Around six directors have been affected, and they may seek internal transfers before leaving. Apple has also reduced staffing for Vision Pro, Siri, and Fitness+ roles. A proposal to cut approximately 5,000 AppleCare customer-service jobs was paused during the summer, according to the report. The moves suggest Ternus is reassessing product timing, engineering coordination, and organisational structure early in his leadership.

Apple CEO Ternus cuts middle management to speed up product development

Apple CEO John Ternus is restructuring the company weeks into his tenure, according to Bloomberg News. The former hardware engineering chief plans to accelerate product development, expand device offerings, and streamline operations with enhanced engineering focus. Ternus is considering moving away from Apple's traditional spring and autumn product release schedules. He aims to eliminate middle-management positions to reduce layers between engineers and senior executives. Cost-cutting measures are already underway. The new CEO is exploring additional revenue streams and methods to increase profitability from existing products. These changes mark the first significant shift following Tim Cook's 15-year tenure as chief executive. Apple shares declined intraday. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Meta's AI agent Muse threatens Apple's ecosystem as BofA warns of user intent interception risk

Bank of America has identified a new competitive threat to Apple from Meta Platforms' AI agent, Muse. The analyst warns that AI agents like Muse could intercept iPhone users' intent before Apple's own software, potentially undermining discovery, referral, and transaction economics within Apple's ecosystem. Muse has reached the top of Apple's App Store with at least 2.5 million downloads in its first weeks. It can shop online, fill out forms, and contact vendors, with partnerships including Shopify, Expedia, and PayPal. Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan notes Apple's Siri AI lacks comparable agentic capabilities, and its annual software-release cycle may disadvantage it against continuously improving AI agents. Despite this risk, Mohan maintains a Buy rating with a $370 price target, calling Apple an eventual winner in edge AI.

Apple stock drops 2.7% as CEO plans management cuts and Meta AI poses threat

Apple stock dropped 2.66% on 29 September to $329.40, falling 4.6% below its 22 September record high of $345.34. The decline was company-specific, making it the weakest performer in the electronic technology sector whilst chipmakers like Broadcom and Micron closed higher. According to a Bloomberg report, CEO John Ternus plans to cut middle management and engineering programme manager roles. He may also eliminate Apple's fixed spring and autumn launch calendar. Bank of America flagged Meta's Muse AI agent as a threat to Apple's shopping and referral activity, though the firm maintains a Buy rating. Apple trades at 37.8 times trailing earnings, above its five-year median of 31. Apple reported record June-quarter revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16% year-over-year, with iPhone sales rising 22%.
