ProShares, Michael L. Sapir expand into active investing, private markets and fixed income. September 9, 2026 ProShares is expanding beyond its traditional exchange-traded fund business into active management, private markets and fixed income, launching a new Active Investments platform and adding senior executives as it pursues its next phase of growth. The asset manager also plans to introduce a lineup of interval funds, giving investors access to less-liquid investments that generally do not fit within traditional ETF structures. ProShares said it will evaluate other investment vehicles and strategic partnerships with asset management firms as it enters additional asset classes. The expansion comes after ProShares recently reached close to $120 billion in assets under management, according to CEO Michael L. Sapir. ProShares and mutual fund affiliate ProFunds managed more than $111 billion as of Aug. 31, 2026. ProShares has built much of its business around ETFs, including dividend growth, high-income, interest-rate-hedged bond, cryptocurrency and geared strategies. Its move into active investments broadens that model by targeting areas where traditional indexing can be more difficult to apply, including private markets and certain fixed-income strategies. The Active Investments platform will serve as the home for the planned interval funds and combine investment research with specialized portfolio management. Interval funds can hold investments with more limited liquidity while offering investors periodic opportunities to redeem shares, opening a structure for strategies that cannot be readily packaged into daily-traded ETFs. ProShares has hired Alessio de Longis as managing director, head of research and chief investment officer of Active Investments to lead the new platform. He joins from Invesco, where he was head of asset allocation and senior portfolio manager within the Investment Solutions Group. At Invesco, de Longis oversaw a global multi-asset investment platform with approximately $100 billion in assets and advisory mandates spanning private wealth and institutional clients. "By combining rigorous investment research, thoughtful portfolio construction, and disciplined portfolio management, we can develop innovative active investment solutions that help meet investors' evolving needs," de Longis said. The firm has also recruited Hyuk Soo Han as senior portfolio manager for private equity. Han will help lead private equity secondary investments and develop additional private markets strategies. He previously served as a principal on GCM Grosvenor's private equity team, focusing on direct and secondary investments. Inkoo Kang has joined as executive director of tactical products, where he will support ProShares' leveraged and inverse ETF business. Kang previously worked at Grayscale and spent more than a decade at Direxion across product development, institutional strategy and portfolio management. ProShares also hired Joseph Witkowski as executive director and head of product development. He joins from BlackRock, where he held senior product leadership positions covering ETFs, alternatives and mutual funds. Witkowski will oversee product development as ProShares enters new asset classes and investment structures. Nicholas Georgakis, another former BlackRock executive, has joined as senior director of product implementation. His responsibilities include supporting the development and implementation of investment strategies and vehicles across the expanding platform. At BlackRock, he worked in senior product strategy and development roles focused on alternatives and multi-asset solutions. The five appointments are part of a broader hiring push.
