- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Applicants must hold a Water Fitness Instructor qualification or equivalent, or obtain it within six months of employment at the first available training.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate proper water fitness techniques.
- Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of fitness protocols.
- A current state-approved first-aid certification is preferred and must be obtained within 30 days of employment or at the first available training.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer is preferred and must be obtained within 30 days of employment or at the first available training.
- Applicants must comply with abuse prevention policies, maintain appropriate boundaries, complete required training, report suspicious or inappropriate behavior, comply with mandated reporting requirements, and pass a background check.
- Employees must be available during branch operational hours, which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Plan and lead water fitness classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
- Develop positive relationships with class members and participants by providing motivational support and guidance.
- Increase class member and participant awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.
- Organize and store class equipment and report equipment problems.
- Maintain appropriate records, including class attendance.
- Follow YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures, and complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Attend staff meetings and applicable training approved by the supervisor.
- Train and supervise volunteer class aides as assigned.
- Encourage member involvement and identify potential volunteers.
- Convey basic knowledge of all program areas to members and participants and refer them to the appropriate Total Health program or staff member when appropriate.
- Make follow-up motivational phone calls to Total Health participants when needed.
- Assist with Total Health orientation when needed.
- Ensure staff are properly screened, trained, supervised, and held accountable to the organization's abuse risk management standards.
- Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations, including differences in language, culture, race, physical ability, and sexual orientation.
- Ability to speak a language in addition to English may be helpful.
