Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 60 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, and reach, and occasionally sit, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist.
  • Visual and hearing acuity and color vision are required.
  • Ability to work in an environment with possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, and blood-borne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to assess, plan, provide, document, and evaluate patient care.
  • Collect and analyze patient data to establish nursing diagnoses and predict outcomes.
  • Coordinate nursing care with a multidisciplinary healthcare team and establish patient goals and interventions.
  • Deliver appropriate patient care and implement interventions identified in the plan of care.
  • Evaluate patient progress toward expected outcomes and communicate effectively with physicians and other team members.
  • Provide patient and family teaching based on individual patient needs.
  • Administer and reconcile medications appropriately.
  • Follow infection-prevention protocols.
  • Protect patient rights, including confidentiality, informed consent, and privacy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary evaluation, process improvement, and client-centered outcome programs.
  • Complete mandatory and continuing education and competence validation requirements.
  • Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Participate in survey-readiness activities and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and appropriately handle protected health information.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and report safety concerns.
  • Interact effectively with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • One year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience is preferred.
