Willis Lease Finance secures $35M preferred stock investment from Development Bank of Japan

Willis Lease Finance Corporation has entered into a $35 million preferred stock purchase agreement with the Development Bank of Japan Inc. The deal, signed on 16 September 2026, involves 1,750,000 shares of the company's 8.09% Series B Preferred Stock. The investment will support WLFC's global expansion, including plans for a new Willis Engine Repair Center in Johor, Malaysia. Scott B. Flaherty, executive vice president and chief financial officer, said the company is delighted to continue growing its partnership with DBJ, which began nearly 10 years ago. This builds on a 2024 agreement in which DBJ refinanced and expanded WLFC's preferred stock from $50 million to $65 million. WLFC leases commercial aircraft engines and provides aviation services worldwide.

Willis Lease Finance adds 13 engines and 12 aircraft to fleet despite Q2 revenue dip

Willis Lease Finance Corp. has acquired 13 aircraft engines and 12 commercial aircraft to expand its aviation asset holdings. CEO Austin C. Willis described the acquisitions as a compelling opportunity to allocate capital towards assets aligned with existing operations, emphasising disciplined growth and long-term value creation. However, the company's second quarter results revealed challenges. Despite a 6.7% increase in lease rent revenue, total revenue declined 0.8% to $194 million, driven by a 30.2% drop in spare parts and equipment sales. Net income attributable to common shareholders fell 51.2% to $28.7 million, whilst diluted earnings per share decreased from $2.81 to $1.31. Institutional interest increased significantly, with hedge fund positions rising from 11 to 27 in the second quarter. Short interest of 9.13% indicates moderate bearish sentiment.

Willis Lease Finance expands global maintenance with new engine repair centre in Malaysia

Willis Lease Finance Corporation is expanding its global maintenance services with a new engine repair facility in Johor, Malaysia. The aviation lessor has purchased land to build its third Willis Engine Repair Center, alongside existing facilities in Florida and Wales. The Malaysian facility will provide maintenance, repair, and storage services for the company's engine portfolio and third-party assets. Construction is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2027. Chief executive officer Austin C. Willis said the expansion strengthens the company's presence in Asia-Pacific, one of aviation's fastest-growing markets. Malaysia's strategic location, skilled workforce, and logistics infrastructure make it well-suited for the operation. Willis Lease has partnered with South Alliance Sdn. Bhd. on the land purchase and development.

Willis Lease increases assets under management 21% to $4.4B, shifts strategy to M&A and SPV deals

Willis Lease Finance Corporation reported a 21% year-over-year increase in assets under management to $4.4 billion in Q2 2026, driven by new discretionary fund seeding. Modern engine platforms now comprise 60% of the portfolio by net book value, reflecting a strategic shift towards fuel-efficient technology. The company recognised a $5.4 million loss on debt extinguishment related to capital restructuring and the issuance of $200 million in convertible senior notes. A 3-for-1 stock split was implemented in July 2026 to enhance equity liquidity. Management noted reduced short-term maintenance reserve revenue as customers flew fewer hours on older, less fuel-efficient platforms during elevated fuel pricing periods. The company signed a major engine storage agreement with Pratt & Whitney and expects balanced growth between its balance sheet and Willis Aviation Capital moving forward.

Willis Lease Finance signs 5-year Pratt & Whitney engine storage deal

Willis Lease Finance has signed a five-year storage agreement with Pratt & Whitney covering engine storage and lease return services. The deal expands the company's aviation aftermarket capabilities and utilises its Coconut Creek and Bridgend facilities. The contract covers several widely used commercial engine families, positioning Willis Lease Finance alongside major aerospace groups such as General Electric and Rolls-Royce in engine services. The agreement enables the company to monetise existing infrastructure through contract-based work rather than relying solely on engine leasing. The stock currently trades at $71.33, up 59.6% year to date. Earnings grew 16.4% over the past year. The company trades at a P/E of 13x, below the US market P/E of 19.3x.
