It provides a full continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, with an entrance fee and ongoing monthly fees for predictable healthcare costs. The goal is to offer integrated, faith-aligned senior living that supports changing needs on the same campus while maintaining stability, dignity, and community.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Sunnyside won 2026 Best of the Valley gold for retirement and memory care.
  • Staffing improved since 2023, and 2025 turnover and retention strengthened.
  • The 2025 strategic plan targets growth, wellness programming, and campus improvements.

What critics are saying

  • Virginia staffing shortages still pressure consistency; 2025 strategy depends on younger hires.
  • Higher-acuity residents raise clinical complexity and liability exposure across Sunnyside's three campuses.
  • If entrance-fee demand weakens, the nonprofit's expansion plans stall and capital flexibility erodes.

What makes Sunnyside Presbyterian Home unique

  • Sunnyside Communities operates three Virginia Life Plan campuses with Christian, nonprofit continuity.
  • Josh Lyons launched an administrator-in-training program in 2025 for higher-acuity senior care.
  • Sunnyside combines independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehab, and home health.
