- Obtain and accurately enter required registration information into the electronic health system.
- Follow procedures for positive identification and medical record number assignment to prevent duplicate or incorrect patient registrations.
- Review demographic and insurance information for completeness and correct deficiencies so collection efforts are not delayed.
- Obtain required signatures and complete forms, including the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire, Advance Beneficiary Notice waiver, HIPAA Privacy Notice, Assignment of Benefits, and Medicare Important Messages.
- Provide information and handouts and answer questions about patient rights and responsibilities, the HIPAA Privacy Notice, and financial assistance documentation.
- Document insurance verification information in the system, including deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and policy limitations.
- Obtain referral, authorization, and pre-certification information when needed and document it in the electronic health record.
- Answer inbound and place outbound telephone calls, direct callers appropriately, and ensure calls are handled efficiently and promptly.
- Contact patients by phone to remind them of appointments, relay instructions, and ask follow-up care questions as needed.
- Cancel and reschedule appointments as needed.
- Assist with identifying and initiating referrals for specialist appointments, procedures, and tests.
- Organize, expedite, and follow up on paperwork related to patient care.
- Schedule various types of appointments for providers and communicate necessary instructions to patients.
- Perform administrative support duties for the department or work location.
- Open, sort, and distribute mail and correspondence as assigned.
- Register patients needing services and handle first-call resolutions for assigned departments.
- Obtain complete demographic, financial, and medical information.
- Pre-register and schedule moderately complex procedures and coordinate multiple resources for patient services.
- Perform prior authorization, incoming and outgoing referrals, good faith estimates, and payment collections as assigned.
- Healthcare customer experience is preferred.
- Prior call center experience may be considered.

Diabetes prevention program at Tidelands Health earns highest recognition from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. September 23, 2026 Tidelands Health has once again been recognized for its work in diabetes prevention, earning the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Full Plus Recognition, the highest level of recognition awarded through the National Diabetes Prevention Program. This marks the second consecutive year Tidelands Health has received the designation, which is reserved for organizations that successfully deliver a high-quality, evidence-based diabetes prevention program while meeting all CDC recognition standards and additional participant retention thresholds. Since launching in 2017, the Tidelands Health Diabetes Prevention Program has helped improve community health outcomes, achieving a 73% participant success rate and helping 61% of participants lose more than 5% of their body weight, both exceeding national averages. "Our Diabetes Prevention Program continues to help participants make sustainable lifestyle changes through education, tools, and support that help reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes," said Wendy Walsh, community health resources manager. Fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon joins Tidelands Health. Patients across the region now have greater access to advanced surgical treatment for neck and back conditions with the addition of fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon David Edelman, MD, to Tidelands Health Neurosciences. Dr. Edelman specializes in minimally invasive and microscopic procedures that help address a wide range of spine disorders while supporting faster recovery and improved outcomes. He treats conditions affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, including spinal stenosis, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, radiculopathy, spine trauma and compression fractures. He also performs cervical disc surgery and disc replacement, as well as complex reconstructive procedures such as anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) and lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF). His expertise in minimally invasive techniques allows many patients to benefit from smaller incisions, reduced postoperative pain and shorter hospital stays. Dr. Edelman earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University. High school students invited to apply for hands-on nursing event at Tidelands Health. Tidelands Health is encouraging high school juniors and seniors in Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties who are interested in pursuing a career in nursing to apply for the health system's annual Nurses are Extraordinary event. The day-long event will give selected participants an opportunity to learn about the nursing profession, explore a variety of nursing specialties and discover the educational pathways available to those interested in entering the field. The event will be held at two Tidelands Health locations: Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital * Monday, Sept. 28, 2026 * 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital * Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026 * 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students will be accepted for only one of the date offerings. Through interactive learning experiences and conversations with health care professionals, students will gain firsthand insight into the rewards and responsibilities of a nursing career. New physician brings decades of OB/GYN experience to growing region. Women across the region now have expanded access to experienced obstetric and gynecologic care with the addition of Dr. Brent Baroody, M.D., to Tidelands Health OB/GYN. A board-certified OB/GYN with more than two decades of experience, Dr. Baroody provides comprehensive care for women at every stage of life. His expertise includes family planning, pregnancy management and delivery, as well as diagnosis and treatment of menstrual disorders, menopause symptoms and other women's health concerns.
