About the company

TooJay's runs New York-style deli restaurants in Florida that serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to sit-down guests and takeout customers. Its restaurants pair a full-service dining room with a deli and bakery counter, and the menu centers on piled-high sandwiches and comfort food, with salads and baked goods made from scratch. Its catering menu runs from boxed lunches and party platters to hot buffets for business meetings and private celebrations. The company earns money from restaurant meals and bakery purchases as well as catering orders. TooJay's began with a single deli on the island of Palm Beach in 1981 and is headquartered in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Hourly staff become managers: TooJay's says nearly all its general managers started as hourly team members.
  • TooJay's pitches above-average pay in The Villages: a September 2026 job fair there said it outpays the average area restaurant.
  • Catering has a dedicated seller: TooJay's catering sales manager courts corporations and hotels, with base pay plus a sales bonus.

What critics are saying

  • Benefits hinge on full-time status: TooJay's extends medical, dental and vision insurance and paid time off to full-time team members.
  • Restaurants have closed before: TooJay's 2020 Chapter 11 bankruptcy cut the chain from about 30 locations to 21.
  • Server income swings with tips: TooJay's Altamonte Springs posting quotes $20 to $30 hourly, tips included, depending on shift.

What makes TooJay's unique

  • A central kitchen feeds the chain: TooJay's West Palm Beach commissary cooks soup in kettles holding up to 300 gallons.
  • The Villages gets two restaurants: TooJay's operates at Lake Sumter Landing and Brownwood in that age-restricted Central Florida community.
  • Catering delivery stays in-house: TooJay's Orlando catering driver posting also asks drivers to market to prospective customers.
