Meta AI researcher Andrew Tulloch is leaving the company after helping launch its new open source AI models and AI assistant, Muse, announced on Tuesday. Meta acquires Swedish AI startup Stilla.ai to boost WhatsApp commerce chatbot

Meta has acquired Swedish AI startup Stilla.ai to accelerate development of Meta Business Agent, which facilitates transactions on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Stilla, founded in Stockholm in 2024, will bring its team and technology to Meta pending the close of the deal. The startup raised $5 million in pre-seed funding when it emerged from stealth mode in January. The acquisition underscores Meta's push to bring its AI technology to the commercial foundation of its messaging ecosystem. Over the past decade, Meta has worked to build a commerce engine connecting millions of small businesses to its billion-plus messaging app users. Meta has said that more than 1 million businesses now use its Business Agent chatbot to handle customer interactions.

Stock markets fall as Meta surges 6.3% on new AI assistant launch

US stock markets declined for the second consecutive session on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 0.8%, the Nasdaq Composite down 0.7%, and the S&P 500 off 0.5% as of mid-morning trading. The drops came as Treasury yields and crude oil prices climbed simultaneously. The Treasury Department announced it would repurchase up to $6 billion of longer-dated government debt, tripling its usual operation. However, the 10-year yield still rose approximately 4 basis points to roughly 4.85%. Brent crude oil increased about 3.4% to $101.25, its first time above $101 since July, following US military strikes on Iranian oil tankers. Meta Platforms bucked the trend, rising 6.3% after launching Muse, a free AI assistant for US users. The announcement negatively impacted competitors, with Alphabet falling 2.7% and Amazon dropping 2.3%.

Meta shares jump 5% as analysts see Muse AI agent unlocking $30T market opportunity

Meta Platforms' shares jumped roughly 5% in pre-market trading Wednesday following the company's launch of Muse, a standalone personal AI agent. Wall Street analysts view the product as tangible evidence of returns on Meta's substantial AI infrastructure investments. Analysts at Mizuho Securities and KeyBanc praised Muse's polish, functionality, and free pricing. KeyBanc maintained a $780 price target, suggesting the market underestimates Meta's AI positioning. Morgan Stanley estimates a $30 trillion total addressable market for consumer AI tasks. The firm highlighted Meta's advantages through its distribution via Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, combined with extensive consumer data. However, analysts cautioned that investors will require concrete engagement and monetisation data before significant stock revaluation, citing Meta's previous stumbles with Facebook Shopping and the Metaverse. The launch also presents competitive threats to Alphabet's search dominance.

Meta's Muse AI agent launches with $20 and $100 tiers, stock jumps 6% as Alphabet falls 2%

Meta Platforms launched Muse, a personal AI agent with subscription tiers at $20 and $100 per month, sending META shares up 6% to $649.20. The product runs on Meta's Muse Spark model and can handle tasks including email, calendars, and payments through WhatsApp and a dedicated app. The launch addresses investor concerns about monetising Meta's AI investments. The company reported Q2 2026 capital expenditures of $30.1 billion and guided full-year capex to $130–145 billion. Free cash flow fell to $784 million from $8.55 billion year-on-year, whilst operating margin compressed to 31% from 43%. Alphabet shares fell 2% to $330.53 as investors view Muse as competition for Gemini. The broader market declined, with QQQ down 0.5% and SPY down 0.3%. Meta reported Q2 2026 revenue of $60.8 billion. The stock remains down 2% year-to-date.
