About the Job

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product design experience, including leading complex software projects from early exploration through launch and iteration.
  • A portfolio of shipped work demonstrating interaction design and visual craft, including examples of making sophisticated workflows easier to understand and use.
  • Ability to guide decision-making with structured thinking, clearly articulated rationale, and user-centered research.
  • Ability to resolve ambiguous problems in complex systems and shape them into simple solutions with clear goals.
  • Experience researching, prototyping, or building products with artificial intelligence and other emerging tools to uncover new patterns for creativity and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of core editor experiences, including foundational concepts like Auto Layout, Text, and canvas interactions, from identifying opportunities through prototyping, shipping, and iteration.
  • Help define and champion a clear vision for how the editor should evolve, translating that vision into concrete proposals, design principles, and priorities with product and engineering partners.
  • Explore how direct manipulation, artificial intelligence, and code can work together, prototyping ways for people to move between generating, editing, and refining their work while retaining creative control.
  • Ground decisions in user research, product data, and close observation of how people create, using that evidence to test assumptions and refine the design point of view.
  • Contribute to the design organization’s culture by participating in design critiques, mentoring peers, and sharing best practices across teams.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing creative tools, editors, canvas interfaces, or other products with rich, direct-manipulation interactions.
  • A design and development hybrid background, or experience building websites or apps.
  • A history of working on canvas-based interfaces or tools that support creative workflows.
  • Experience with code-based prototyping, front-end development, or workflows that connect design and implementation.

About the Company

Figma

Makes browser-based tools for teams to design apps

Figma makes design software that runs in a web browser, where designers, developers, and product managers create apps and websites together. Its first public release in 2016 brought Google Docs-style live editing to professional design, so several people could work in the same file at once. Teams draw screens and clickable prototypes in Figma Design, brainstorm on the FigJam whiteboard, and hand designs to engineers through Dev Mode, while Figma Make turns written prompts into working prototypes and apps. Anyone can start on a free plan, and companies pay a monthly or yearly fee for each user, plus extra for heavy AI use. Figma was founded in 2012 and is based in San Francisco.
