About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and at least 2 years of Hardware Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related work experience; alternatively, a Master's degree in one of those fields and at least 1 year of related work experience; or a PhD in one of those fields.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++.
  • A solid understanding of machine learning compiler concepts, including graph intermediate representations, operator fusion, shape inference, lowering passes, and backend partitioning, with hands-on experience using one or more compiler stacks such as MLIR, ONNX, or TVM.
  • Experience with PyTorch model export, including torch.export, torch.compile, FX, or ATen intermediate representation, and on-device deployment frameworks such as LiteRT, ExecuTorch, or ONNX Runtime.
  • Experience building automated continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for model compilation and validation at scale.
  • Proficiency with Git and software engineering best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and plan, solve problems, and prioritize tasks involving multiple steps.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain machine learning compiler technologies that convert AI models from PyTorch or ONNX into efficient code running on device chips, including CPU, GPU, and NPU processors.
  • Contribute to the AI Hub compiler and ONNX Runtime QNN by performing graph optimization and partitioning and ensuring models work correctly across backends.
  • Build debugging tools to identify and fix failures, accuracy loss, or slowdowns, and provide clear diagnostics for other developers.
  • Solve open-ended problems independently while mentoring teammates and providing technical guidance.
  • Explain complex compiler concepts clearly to chip engineers, business partners, and external developers.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of industry experience in machine learning infrastructure, compiler engineering, or AI framework development.
  • Familiarity with system-on-chip constraints, including memory bandwidth, compute precision, and NPU/DSP execution.
  • Familiarity with hardware-specific runtimes such as QAIRT/QNN.

About the Company

Qualcomm

Designs mobile chips and licenses wireless patents

Qualcomm designs the Snapdragon processors and modems inside many Android phones, and it licenses its wireless patents to device makers around the world. It helped commercialize CDMA, the cellular technology behind 3G networks, and its patents cover core parts of the 4G and 5G standards that phones use to connect. The company does not run its own chip factories; contract foundries make its chips, which it sells to makers of phones, PCs, cars, and connected devices. Device makers also pay Qualcomm royalties for using its patented technology, which forms a second business alongside chip sales. Qualcomm was founded in 1985 and is based in San Diego, California.
